<strong>FITNESS</strong> <strong>CHALLENGE</strong><br />

<strong>Rules</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Participation</strong><br />

• Participants must be 18 years old and are required to read and sign the waiver before<br />

participating.<br />

• Participants must bring valid photo ID to the event as pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> age.<br />

• Participants must complete all four (4) events to be eligible to win prizes.<br />

• Prizes will be given to the top male and female from each age category with the most<br />

accumulated points. Then both males and both females will compete in the tie breaker<br />

event to determine the overall male and female winner and runner-up, independent <strong>of</strong> age<br />

category.<br />

• Participants will automatically earn one point for each event in which they participate.<br />

Based on their performance in each event, then, they may earn up to four additional<br />

points for a total possible score <strong>of</strong> five (5) per event. Final overall scores may range from<br />

4-20. Specific details on earning points can be found under each event.<br />

• Rec Sports employees and staff are not allowed to compete in the Fitness Challenge.<br />

• Participating event vendors will not be allowed to compete in the Fitness Challenge.<br />

• Participants will be categorized based on gender and age. They will be: Female 18-39,<br />

Female 40+, Male 18-39, and Male 40+.<br />

• Pre-registration is available on our website, and participants may register until 11:45am on<br />

the day <strong>of</strong> the event.<br />

• Winners will be announced at 12:30pm on April 6. You must be present to win.<br />

• There will be a maximum <strong>of</strong> six participants on the course at one time, but Rec Sports<br />

reserves the right to limit the participants on the course to four if necessary.<br />

• To determine grand prize winners the top participant from each age-gender category will<br />

compete in a predetermined tie-breaker activity.<br />

• The tie-breaker will start at 12:15pm and participants must be present to compete or else<br />

will forfeit grand prize and will be gender runner-up.<br />

• The tie-breaker will consist <strong>of</strong> a timed-tempo throw/catch event using a medicine ball.<br />

• Events will be managed and scored by ACE-certified personal trainers and Rec Sports<br />

staff.<br />

• Scores for each event will be written on a score card by the event staff member. Each score<br />

card must stay with the participant at all times and needs to be completed in its entirety in<br />

order for the participant to be eligible for prizes.<br />

• Participants must complete all four events within 25 minutes.<br />

• Events may be completed in any order WITH THE EXCEPTION <strong>of</strong> the plyometric<br />

rebounder. All participants must begin the challenge with the plyometric rebounder<br />

agility/coordination event.<br />

• In case <strong>of</strong> dispute, Rec Sports staff will hold final determination.


PLYOREBOUNDER<br />

agility and reaction time<br />

• Participant will stand behind<br />

the designated line in front <strong>of</strong><br />

the plyorebounder holding the<br />

reaction ball.<br />

• Participant will throw reaction<br />

ball at rebounder and try to<br />

catch it <strong>of</strong>f the rebound.<br />

• Only catches where the ball<br />

doesn’t hit the ground will<br />

count toward final scores.<br />

• Catches do not need to be<br />

made consecutively. Participant<br />

should throw the ball against<br />

the trampoline, not the springs<br />

or the frame.<br />

• Participant must retrieve every<br />

throw, regardless <strong>of</strong> whether<br />

s/he actually catches the ball <strong>of</strong>f<br />

the rebounder.<br />

• Participant must return to<br />

standing behind the line before<br />

his/her next throw.<br />

• Each participant will receive<br />

two untimed practice throws<br />

that will not count toward final<br />

score.<br />

STORK STAND TEST<br />

• Participant must remove his/her shoes for this test.<br />

• Participant will receive one minute to practice the test.<br />

• Place the hands on the hips, then position the non-supporting foot against the inside <strong>of</strong><br />

the lower part <strong>of</strong> the supporting leg. Raise the heel to balance on the ball <strong>of</strong> the foot.<br />

• The stopwatch will be started as the heel is raised from the floor. The stopwatch will be<br />

stopped if any <strong>of</strong> the following occur: the hand(s) come <strong>of</strong>f the hips; the supporting foot<br />

swivels or moves (hops) in any direction; the non-supporting foot loses contact with the<br />

leg; or the heel <strong>of</strong> the supporting foot touches the floor.<br />

• Both feet will be scored and the better score will be applied to participant’s overall score.<br />

WALL SIT WITH WEIGHT HOLD<br />

strength<br />

• A trainer will help each<br />

participant set up with<br />

proper form for the wall sit:<br />

knees at a 90-degree angle<br />

with the ankles directly<br />

below the knee and thighs<br />

parallel to the floor. The<br />

upper back and shoulder<br />

blades must stay in contact<br />

with the wall at all times.<br />

• Once in place, the<br />

participant will extend<br />

both arms holding a weight<br />

directly in front <strong>of</strong> his/her<br />

body.<br />

• Males will use a 10-pound<br />

weight; females will use a<br />

5-pound weight.<br />

• Both hands must remain on<br />

the weight at all times.<br />

• The wall sit will be complete<br />

once the participant’s head<br />

goes above setup line, the<br />

rear drops below setup<br />

line or the arms move up<br />

or down from the starting<br />

position.<br />

SPIN BICYCLE<br />

• Each participant will complete 4 miles on a spin bike set at gear 10<br />

• Participants will be appropriately fitted on the spin bike prior to competition<br />

• Participants have 3 minutes to warm up, but they are not required to take the warm up<br />

period, and any distance covered during the warm up will not count toward overall 4-mile<br />

requisite distance.<br />
