Battle of the Bands
The Tri-M Honor Music Society sponsored the Battle
of the Bands on October 10, 2012. Tri-M President
Claire Bufalino ’13 organized the event with the help
of seasoned sound and lighting crews. Rosie Short ’13,
veteran on the crew scene summed up the evening
succinctly: “I love Battle of the Bands!! There is so much
hidden talent at Carmel!” Rapper Dan Santos ‘13 invited
dozens of students on stage to sing backup as he jammed
to his version of Lean on Me. The Winning Band was
VanBuren & Wells featuring Carmel’s Pat Petrus on drums
(band mates are Stevenson’s John Williams, Michael
Tobias and Jeremy Feirstein). Moderator Mr. Kent Parry is
proud to share that all proceeds collected from the event
went to Carmelite ministries.
Fall Play
Creighton Budris croons for the band ‘Reclaim the Streets’
Final rehearsals for Carmel Catholic High School’s fall
production of Loving Lives are underway. Cast member Will
Higgins ’14 explains, “This show is a comedy set in January
1948. The gist of the plot revolves around a radio soap
opera and its producers that want to refill its spot with other
entertainment….it’s hilarious!” In addition to rehearsals
after school, students and parent mentors have carried on
the tradition of working side by side building and painting
sets for six Saturdays prior to the show’s opening. Director
Denise Sebastiano brims with enthusiasm, “Once again our
talented students have worked diligently to create a great
show.”

Will Higgins ’14 auditioned for the Illinois Music Educators
Association District Seven Choral Senior Festival on
October 10, 2012. Higgins, a tenor, was selected from
hundreds of students to represent Carmel on November
10, 2012 at Glenbrook North High School at the Senior
Festival.
In addition, Caitlyn Cuba auditioned for the 2012 Illinois
Music Educators Association District Seven Honors Band
on October 10th at Zion Benton HS. Over 1500 students
audition each year for honors band and honors Jazz.
She was selected to be a member of the Clarinet section,
playing the B flat clarinet.
Ben Paulson ‘13 and Erin Noll ‘13 entertain the audience
The honors festival is a daylong event with rehearsals,
fellowship, and a concert at the end of the day with band
choir and orchestra. The Festival is November 10th.
