Wells Fargo is offering free resources for students who are preparing for college. The Financial Aid Journey in<br />

5 Steps is an easy-to-follow guide that navigates parents and students through the financial aid process in<br />

five simple steps – including comparing award letters. CollegeSTEPS® magazine provides students and<br />

parents with articles, tips, and resources for planning and paying for college. This resource is available in a<br />

PDF and can be accessed by visiting http://wfefs.wellsfargo.com/jump/CollegeSTEPS_online_magazine.pdf.<br />

If you could use some extra help planning and preparing financially for college, Get College Ready<br />

resources provide interactive college planning tools, calculators, and other resources students can use as<br />

they plan, prepare, and get ready for college in the fall, which can be found by visiting<br />

http://wellsfargomedia.com/GetCollegeReady. The Hands on Banking® program is a non-commercial<br />

financial education program featuring information for students about real-life scenarios that can help them<br />

build a strong foundation for a healthy financial future (found at http://handsonbanking.org). Between April<br />

and June, 2014, students can stop by a local Wells Fargo location and pick up their complimentary college<br />

planning resources. Students are the future employees and customers of the businesses that serve the<br />

communities in which we live and work – their success is important to all of us, and it is why Wells Fargo<br />

makes these resources available.<br />

College/Community Programs & Events<br />

Northwest Florida State College’s Forensics (Speech & Debate) Team is hosting an Open Debate Night on<br />

Thursday, April 10 th , 2014, from 6:30-8:30 PM in Classroom S-110 at the NWFSC Niceville campus. All students<br />

are welcome. No experience is necessary. Debate the current hot issues. Bring a debate partner – there will<br />

be two against two debates. Awards will go to the top three teams. Preregister by email at<br />

scalfc@nwfsc.edu. If you’re looking for scholarship opportunities, enjoy traveling for free, and you would like<br />

to be a part of a very challenging, but fun team, consider joining the Northwest Florida State College<br />

Forensics Team! A full scholarship is available for qualified team members. In order to be qualified for the<br />

scholarship, students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and be registered for at least nine (9) semester hours<br />

and participate in at least two tournaments per semester.<br />

You and your family are invited to attend an Open House on the Virginia Military Institute Post this year! We<br />

hope you will take this opportunity to visit VMI to speak with our faculty, ROTC staffs, and cadets in a relaxed<br />

SCAD Days are special visitation days that enable students and their families to explore the facilities and<br />

academic programs, meet faculty, get a taste of SCAD classroom settings and student life, discuss financial<br />

aid and scholarship opportunities, and begin the enrollment process. With the help of the SCAD Day<br />

Concierge, students can design their visitation day to suit their unique interests. Upcoming SCAD Day in<br />

Atlanta, GA, is April 12 th , 2014. Learn more about SCAD Days and register today at www.scad.edu.<br />

The Health Care Summer Institute is a summer camp designed to encourage minority or rural disadvantaged<br />

students to pursue health career opportunities and to build a plan of success for their future. It is a 4-week<br />

session that will take place from June 15 th , 2014 – July 12 th , 2014. Selected participants will live in the<br />

University of Florida campus dormitories, shadow health care professionals, attend educational lectures and<br />

programs, and participate in social activities. The students will also attend an intensive SAT Prep course. The<br />

students will be supervised full time by counselors, a camp coordinator, and a camp director. Students will<br />

be selected based on GPA, an expressed interest in a health profession, maturity level, desire for post high<br />

school education, completion of the application process, and recommendations. The only cost that the<br />

student will be responsible for is personal spending money, a $50 commitment fee, and transportation to<br />

and from the University of Florida. To be eligible, students must be Seniors or Juniors during the 2014-2015<br />

school year (Juniors and Sophomores currently), minority or rural and disadvantaged, have at least a 2.5<br />

GPA, have teacher recommendation, guidance counselor recommendation, and completion of all<br />

registration requirements. Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance office. You<br />
