About the college and Department of English:
Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College of Arts, Science and Commerce,Ghatkopar( W),
Mumbai-400086 , one of the distinguished colleges affiliated to the university of Mumbai,
saw the light of day in 1963 under the aegis of Hindi Vidya Prachar Samiti(HVPS) founded
by a great visionary, late Shri Nanadkishore Singh Jairamji. The college planted as sapling
has come of age with the strength of students exceeding 10000, besides teaching and nonteaching
staff. In addition to traditional programmes of Arts , Science and Commerce,
the college has also introduced a number of self financing courses such as BMS,B.Sc. IT,
M.sc. in Computer Science and Biotechnology, BBI, M. Com M.A. in Hindi and English
literature. The college has been re-accredited with “A” grade by NAAC; honored with the
Best College Award by the University of Mumbai, and Performance Excellence Trophy by
IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Institute.
The Department of English is one of the pioneering departments and has ever since been
making rapid strides in the fields of academics. Since the inception, the Dept. has been
offering English as a major subject at TYBA.The Dept. has also introduced Postgraduate
and Ph. D. centres to facilitate access to higher education. Under the auspices of English
Literary Association, the Dept conducts a number of co and extra curricular activities to
inculcate essential skills and tap the latent talents of the students.
Need and Scope of the Workshop:
The Two Day Workshop on the revised syllabi of MA in English aims to promote an active
participation of the delegates to analyze the syllabi and to ensure a better mode of
implementation, as the programme is designed on the Credit-based Semester and Grading
System being introduced by the University of Mumbai from the current academic year
2012-2013. It tends to prepare a uniform pattern of internal evaluation and Semester end
examinations to meet the objectives of the UGC recommendations.
