INTRODUCTION
Geological terrain mapping report has been made
mandatory for the submission of development
planning proposals (LCP) in highlands and on
hill slopes in several states in Malaysia. This twoday
training course organised by the Institute of
Geology Malaysia in collaboration with Minerals
and Geoscience Department Malaysia grew out of
the need to provide practical, hands-on approach to
geologists in terrain mapping in accordance to the
Guidelines of the Ministry of Natural Resources
and Environment. This training course covers
aspects related to the guidelines of hill slope and
highland development, methodology of geological
terrain mapping, data acquisition, processing and
analysis using GIS and report preparation. The
programme is consisting of lectures and hands-on
training in field mapping and data analysis, as well
as sessions for group discussion and presentation.
The intention of this training is to provide a
competency certification for geologists which
is recognised by both government and private
sectors.
REGISTRATION
The fee for IGM or GSM members is RM400.00
and for non-members is RM500.00. Registration
is on first-come-first-served basis, together with
payment by crossed cheque or bank draft payable
to “Institute of Geology Malaysia”.
The training course is limited to a maximum of
40 participants. IGM has the right to cancel the
training course if there is not enough participants.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation at the Heritage Hotel is available
at special rate of RM200.00 per night (single/double
superior room), at the participant’s own expense.

FIELD EQUIPMENT
All participants are urged to bring along their computer,
compass, clinometer, geological hammer, GPS, laser
rangefinder as well as stationery for the hands-on session.
Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the field
training, which will be carried out on rugged terrain.
