Rugby
Ryan Hood, Ist XV Captain, and Andy Hall
have played in the Scotland U18 team and
Keith Buchan has been selected for the
Scotland U17 Rugby Squad.
Ryan and Andy started in Scotland’s U18 Rugby
team which took on Wales at the Greenyards,
Melrose this term. The Welsh squad, all of whom
are contracted to professional teams, proved to be the stronger outfit on the day
but it is the first time that Strathallan has had two players starting for Scotland at
U18 level since the introduction of the integrated team. We wish the boys every
success in the 6 Nations Tournament in Wales over Easter.
Keith represented Strathallan in the Scottish U17 team which played Newcastle
Falcons U17 at Murrayfield. We wish Keith well as he heads to Berkshire with
Scotland to play in the International Tournament over the holiday
Representation in the Caledonia Rugby teams has been very impressive this
term with three boys selected in each of the U18, U17 and U16 teams for the
Scottish Inter-District Championships. Andy Hall, Joe McColl and Ryan Hood
continue to play in the U18 team, while Alex Henderson, Keith Buchan and Tom
Wilson were selected for the U17. In the U16 team Ruairidh Hunter, Chris King
and Jack Sommerville have all featured in the championship winning side.
Blair Brothers’
Training Session
Scotland Rugby Captain Mike Blair and
Scotland A and Edinburgh stand-off David Blair
kindly took time out of their busy schedules to
run a kicking clinic at the School. Players who
will form a key part of the future of Strathallan
Rugby benefited from David’s and Mike’s
coaching and insight. It has been a privilege for
the Strathallan players to participate in sessions
this season with Edinburgh Rugby’s Steven
Turnbull (Simpson 05) and Club Captain Simon
Cross and Glasgow Warriors and Scotland’s
Tom and Max Evans in addition to the Blair
brothers. All these young professionals have
been a tremendous credit to their clubs, have
been generous with their time and presented as
excellent role models for the Strathallan boys.
Jamie wins Judo Gold
Jamie Ritchie is certainly making his mark in the competitive world
of Judo following his Gold medal win in the Junior Under 14, 60kg
category at the British Independent Schools Judo Championships.
Jamie won all four fights by Ippon,
automatic win, the second fight only
lasting six seconds with a drop knee
seonage winning throw. After qualifying
first in his group, Jamie won the semi
final with a Yamarashi throw. In the final
a determined Jamie started by throwing
a seonage co-ouchi for a yuko, 5 points,
followed by another yuko with a drop
knee seonage and finally a Yamarashi
throw for the Ippon.
Netball
It has been a particularly successful season for
the Netball Team which has resulted in the girls
becoming Independent School Champions.
