On The Coast
There are many ways to enjoy the breathtaking
coast of North Down.
• Take a walk along one of the many coastal
routes exploring the stunning views of the
coastline, countryside, and towns and villages
OR
• For a day out, discover the North Down
coastal path with its 16 miles of unspoilt
coastline that runs from its eastern boundary
at Holywood, through Bangor to Portavoe,
just south of Groomsport.
For something a little bit more adventurous:
• Take to the high seas on one of our boat trips
or experience Shore fishing along the coast
• Fishing trips depart from the Eisenhower Pier
twice daily in July and August at 18.30 &
19.30 and weekends in Autumn.
• Whilst Extreme thrill seekers can try their
hands at kite surfing and catching waves.

History and Christian
Heritage
Take the time to explore the rich vein of
Christian heritage running through the
landscape of North Down, Bangor and
Groomsport, left when the monks came to
Bangor in the 15th century, these include:
• Bangor Abbey, First Bangor Presbyterian
Church, St Columbanus Church of Ireland and
North Down Museum.
• Take a more contemporary look at recent
history, at the Ulster Folk and Transport
Museum and experience the birth of
modern transport in all its glory, from horse
drawn carriages, electric trams, motorbikes
to fire-engines and vintage cars at the
transport museum.
Family Fun Days
• Pickie Funpark in Bangor, always a popular
attraction has recently been updated for
the 21st century without losing any of
its characteristic charm. It’s the ideal place
to start a fun day out for the family with its
adventure playground, giant pedal boat
swans, Pickie Puffer steam train and café.
• Take a walk through Castle Park and Bangor
Castle Walled Garden (open seasonally) then
stop off at the North Down Museum where
the 200 year history of Bangor as a seaside
destination is full of fun and fascination.
• Bangor’s Town Centre is an excellent place
to stop for lunch in the many family-friendly
restaurants, cafes and bistros, or alternatively,
enjoy a picnic in nearby Ward Park
• Go for a leisurely walk along the promenade
or catch a family flick at the Bangor
Omniplex to end the perfect day.
Wet Days
On those days the sun fails to shine in the
North Down area, there are plenty of indoor
activities to entertain the whole family;
• Put your feet up and relax as the kids enjoy
the fun in one of North Down’s indoor soft
play areas. Burn off that excess energy in
Bangor’s indoor go-karting arena or visit the
brand new Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure
Complex.
• Discover the history of the area at the North
Down Museum where you will learn about
Vikings, Christian Heritage and Bangor’s early
days as a seaside resort!
