corporate or organization dinner party, cocktail reception, seminar, or meeting. With masterpieces of European<br />

and American art gracing the walls, set within a historically and architecturally significant building, your guests<br />

will experience an event to be remembered. What’s more, the museum’s downtown location provides a central<br />

gathering place with multiple spaces to suit a wide-variety of business needs.<br />

ROOM DESCRIPTIONS<br />

Depending on your entertaining style and space requirements, the museum’s distinctive<br />

event spaces each offer a different ambience for your guests.<br />

AVERY COURT<br />

International Style Avery Court features a spectacular skylight with a working centerpiece<br />

Venus fountain created in 1600 by French artist Pietro Francavilla who worked in Italy. This<br />

gallery accommodates up to 220 for a seated dinner and 350 for a standing reception.<br />

MORGAN GREAT HALL<br />

Elegant Morgan Great Hall offers a breathtaking view of large scale Contemporary works.<br />

With majestic 50-foot high ceilings, the Great Hall seats up to 120 for dinner and allows<br />

200 for a reception.<br />

HARTFORD COURANT ROOM, MUSEUM CAFÉ & GENGRAS COURT<br />

For more intimate gatherings, the Hartford Courant Room provides the perfect location<br />

for business breakfasts, luncheons, meetings, presentations, lectures, and small dinner<br />

parties. Capacity for a seated meal, lecture or standing reception is 50. <strong>The</strong> museum café<br />

also serves smaller business groups for breakfast meetings, evening cocktail receptions<br />

and dinner events. This space can be used in conjunction with the adjoining outdoor<br />

Gengras Court during the warmer months. Capacity is 75 for a seated meal and 100 for a<br />

standing reception in the café.<br />

AETNA THEATER & LOCTITE LOBBY<br />

For formal presentations requiring more extensive audio visual capabilities, Aetna <strong>The</strong>ater<br />

is fully equipped with a stage and audio visual equipment. Floor-to-ceiling lyrical neo-<br />

Romantic murals line the walls of the classic Art Deco theater, originally opened in 1934.<br />

<strong>The</strong> theater holds up to 284 guests and has an adjoining lobby for small pre or post event<br />

receptions.<br />

date(s) upon which the event is held. In-house dining tables and chairs are included in the<br />

needs. Healthy Source Catering is a multi-faceted fully licensed catering service wellknown<br />

for their professional service, superior cuisine, stunning presentations and exciting<br />

themes. Chef Marty Pushkarewicz brings over 25 years of experience specializing in casual,<br />

and fine dining.<br />

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES<br />

<strong>Atheneum</strong> Docent-Guided Tours<br />

If you choose to host your special event at the museum, we may arrange for docent-led<br />

tour of the galleries for your guests. Your guests will spend time getting to know the art at<br />

the <strong>Atheneum</strong>. From Degas to Dalí, our collections have earned the <strong>Wadsworth</strong> <strong>Atheneum</strong><br />

a world-class reputation. We recommend 1 Docent per 25-30 guests: $150 per tour<br />

(approx. length of tour is 25-30 minutes).<br />

AUDIO VISUAL SUPPORT<br />

<strong>The</strong> Museum <strong>The</strong>ater at the <strong>Wadsworth</strong> <strong>Atheneum</strong> maintains an inventory of audio-visual<br />

equipment for most theatrical, concert, and corporate events. To ensure that the needs<br />

of your production are met, we request that you review the museum’s technical rider<br />

(available upon request) and address special concerns or additional requirements to us as<br />

soon as possible.<br />

MUSEUM POLICIES AND PROCEDURES<br />

RENTAL SPACE AVAILABILITY<br />

<strong>The</strong> Museum is available for facility rental when closed to the general public and when not<br />

in use for Museum events. Special exceptions may be arranged with the Special Events<br />

Coordinator.<br />

Museum Hours are:<br />

Wednesday - Friday<br />

11 a.m. – 5 p.m.<br />

Saturday & Sunday<br />

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.<br />

On the first Thursday of each month, the Museum is open until 8 p.m.<br />

Extended hours may be offered during special exhibitions.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are occasional periods when the Museum closes certain areas to install new<br />

exhibitions. We will inform the Client of gallery closing dates that are known at the time of<br />

booking. Some bookings will not be able to be scheduled due to exhibition planning.<br />

TYPES OF <strong>EVENTS</strong>*<br />

<strong>The</strong> Museum does not permit commercial, religious, political, private fundraising events<br />

or weddings. Also, no organization or individual is allowed to charge admission fees, make<br />

collections, seek contributions, give door prizes, conduct drawings or raffles, promote<br />

commercial products or sell items in the Museum. Any special exceptions must be preapproved<br />

by the Museum. <strong>The</strong> Museum reserves the right to review applications for rental<br />

and to decline any event it deems inappropriate.<br />

CONSIDERATIONS WHEN RENTING MUSEUM SPACE<br />

When considering renting Museum space for an event, please keep in mind that the<br />

<strong>Wadsworth</strong> <strong>Atheneum</strong> has many valuable works of art. In planning your event, the<br />

safety of the artwork must be considered. <strong>The</strong> Museum’s Special Events Coordinator<br />

will be happy to work with you to make sure your event is a success while at the same<br />

time assuring the protection of the Museum’s valuable property. Rental policies and<br />

procedures apply exclusively to the Museum event areas, and conditions and exhibitions<br />

are subject to change.<br />

*<strong>The</strong> Special Events Coordinator reserves the right to make special exceptions for<br />

private events depending on a donor’s annual giving level.<br />
