Diamond Blades
Damage to segments
Problems, malfunctions and their cause
Diamond Systems
Most complaints concerning diamond saw blades can be traced to machine-related problems,
wrong application, misuse of the diamond saw blade or use of the wrong diamond
saw blade specification.
Problem Characteristics Cause Solution
Excessive Diamonds project far Soft segment specification Select harder segment specification
segment out of the matrix
wear Diamonds smashed Not enough water Ensure water supply is adequate
or fallen out of the
matrix Wrong speed Adjust spindle speed
Defective drive-shaft bearing Replace the bearing
Unsatisfactory Segments polished Segment specification too hard for the Use a softer segment specification
rate of (diamond do not material being cut
cutting progress project from
the matrix) Blade has lost tension Retension steel centre
Motor power inadequate Check voltage or motor power output
Saw blade becomes blunt Select blade specification and adjust
due to excessive speed speed to suit material being cut
Saw blade becomes blunt due to Dress the saw blade segments by cutting
continuous use in hard materials or an abrasive material (e.g. sandstone
concrete with extremely high steel content or the Hilti sharpening plate, (item no.
concrete using a little water
Cracks in Formation of cracks Segment specification too hard Use a softer segment specification
segments in the segments
Power output too high for the selected Select segment specification to suit
segment specification machine power output
Spindle speed too low for blade diameter Adjust spindle speed
Intermittent segment overheating Ensure water supply is continuous
Uneven segment Segment worn to Drive spindle blade mount worn New drive spindle
wear (eccentricity) uneven heights
Drive spindle deformed, out of true New drive spindle
Drive spindle bearings defective Replace bearings
Loss of segments Failure of brazed Blade sticks in cut (breakage caused by Guide machine correctly
joint, segments use of excessive force)
broken off
Blade overheated Check water supply
Workpiece moves out of place when sawing Workpiece must be held securely
Loose rebars in base material Repair the saw blade and/or replace
Segment supports Cutting too deep in loose base material Select shallower cutting depth
