were randomly assigned to buildings with<br />
varying levels of nature nearby, residents in<br />
the less green environments reported more<br />
aggression and violence and higher levels of<br />
mental fatigue. 40 • Davis and Jones found that many 9 and 10<br />
year-olds would prefer to cycle to school<br />
rather than travel by car, but they are not<br />
allowed to by their parents. The authors<br />
concluded that adults appeared to “want to<br />
teach children to be careful and to be scared<br />
of cars rather than attempting to limit the<br />
traffic” 41 – a somewhat fatalistic approach.
