Dear Parents/Caregivers
It’s hard to believe that today is the last
day of the first Term and the holidays are
almost upon us. It’s been a very busy Term
and we hope that our Year 7s have enjoyed
their first ten weeks at Naenae
Intermediate. As a staff we have been very
proud of them. They have coped well with
the rigours of transitioning from their
Contributing School and have been
enthusiastic in taking advantage of the new
opportunities available. The Year 8’s have
also stepped up, and as well as making the
most of the leadership opportunities
available to them, have acted as role models
for our new students. We hope they all have
a relaxing holiday and return to school
refreshed on Monday 23 rd April. Thank you
also to all our parents and caregivers who
have supported us by ensuring their child
has completed homework, is at school every
day wearing full uniform and has everything
they need to get them through the day.

Staff Change Term 2
Room 15 teacher Ms Searancke is taking
maternity leave from the beginning of Term
2 until the end of the year. We wish her all
the very best for the birth of her son and
look forward to her return at the beginning
of 2013. Ms Searancke’s replacement is ex
staff member Mr Rangiwhetu who returns
to us from Our Lady of the Rosary School.
Never mind what others do; do better than
yourself, beat your own record from day to
day and you are a success.

Syndicate 1 Camp
Awesome! Fantastic! Syndicate 1 students
completed an outstanding camp that
provided challenges and unforgettable
experiences at Kaiteriteri Beach, Nelson,
26-30 March 2012. We were really
fortunate with the weather all week – clear
blue skies, little wind and temperatures in
the 20s. Nights were a little cooler, but
didn’t deter the students who tented
overnight.
Favourite activities for our students were
the sea kayaking around the coast line (with
penguins), abseiling down a 30m rock face,
mud sliding on the estuary, swimming in the
sparkling clear waters off the golden sands
of Kaiteriteri Beach, the longest water
slide, seeing the stalactites and Moa bones
in the Ngarua Caves, waking up early to
witness the beautiful sunrise, dolphins
around the ferry on the way home, the big
dig on beach day … and the lovely food –
roast pork and roast veges with pavlova,
fruit, jelly and ice cream on the last night
and scrambled eggs, toast and fruit for our
last breakfast!
A truly memorable camp with many positive
experiences we can draw from for our
learning for the rest of the year. What a
wonderful group of students Syndicate 1
has!

Congratulations
Well done to Clench Enoka who has been
selected to represent the Naenae Computer
Clubhouse at a teen summit in the United
States in July.
Uniform
There are a number of students who do not
have correct uniform at present, mainly
shoes. Please use the holidays to purchase
the correct uniform. The shoes we require
need to be completely black with black
laces. Please do not let your child talk you in
to buying canvas shoes or slip on shoes with
no laces.
Music Tuition
Lessons continue in Term 2 for Drums,
Guitar and Keyboard. Flute lessons will
hopefully begin – although the teacher
would like 1-2 more pupils to learn, to fill
vacant spots and make it viable for her to
teach here. If your child would like to learn
flute, please ask him/her to collect a form
from the office.
There is unfortunately a waiting list for the
other three instruments mentioned. We
apologise for not being able to provide
tuition to everyone.
Year 6 Visits
As we did last year we are inviting all the
Year 6 students and their parents from our
contributing schools to visit our school early
next Term to see the school in operation,
whether or not the child will be enrolling at
our school in 2013. Students who enroll will
still receive an orientation visit at the end
of the year, but we know that a number of
parents who enroll their children in other
schools have not taken the opportunity to
visit their local Intermediate. We hope that
this visit will assist them with their decision
making. The 2013 prospectus will be given
out at this time.
Start of Term 2
School will reopen at the normal time on
Monday 23 rd April.
