Paul Boatman,<br />

Dean of <strong>Christian</strong> Ministries<br />
Professor of Pastoral Care <strong>and</strong><br />
Counseling<br />
Dr. Paul E. Boatman is Professor of Pastoral Care <strong>and</strong> Counseling, a<br />
position he has held since 1978. He also serves as Dean for <strong>Christian</strong> Ministries in<br />
the Seminary. His education has been at St. Louis <strong>Christian</strong> College (B.A., 1966),<br />
<strong>Lincoln</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> Seminary (M.Div., 1974), Eden Theological Seminary (D.Min.,<br />
1977), C.A.R.E. & Counseling (Certificate in Pastoral Counseling, 1977), <strong>and</strong> St.<br />
Louis <strong>University</strong> (studies in historical theology, 1990-92). His 10 years of service<br />
as a preaching minister included a multi-cultural church plant in Indianapolis.<br />
He led the development of an inner-city ministry in St. Louis from 1973-78. A<br />
strong commitment to cross-cultural counseling <strong>and</strong> mission work has taken him<br />
to Kenya, Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Philippines, Thail<strong>and</strong>, India, St. Vincent,<br />
<strong>and</strong> Mexico, emphasizing ministry education <strong>and</strong> pastoral care for missionaries<br />
<strong>and</strong> national <strong>Christian</strong>s. He is an accredited Fellow in the American Association<br />
of Pastoral Counselors, a charter member of the American Association of<br />
<strong>Christian</strong> Counselors, a member of Delta Epsilon Chi honor society, <strong>and</strong> a<br />
recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from St. Louis <strong>Christian</strong> College<br />
in 2000. He serves on the Chaplaincy Endorsement Commission <strong>and</strong> has served<br />
several mission boards as a member or consultant. Married since 1966, he <strong>and</strong><br />
Mary have two adult daughters. In addition to gr<strong>and</strong>parenting, favorite activities<br />
include motorcycling, wilderness hiking <strong>and</strong> climbing, <strong>and</strong> Canadian fishing. His<br />
