Family Follow-up
A sad story. Parts of this story are very disturbing. Discuss how you
feel about terrible evils, then and now. What do they show us about our
world? About God?
A poster. God’s plan could not be stopped – even by King Herod!
Make a poster that says “Nothing can stop God!” or “God rules!”
CONNECT THE DOTS to see what Mary and Joseph might have looked
like when they escaped to Egypt with little Jesus (Matthew 2:13-15).

MEET THE INDESTRUCTIBLE KING (Matt 2:13-23)
WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT BULLIES?
This is the story of 2 kings and a protective Father God.
A. King Herod felt threatened when he heard about baby Jesus and took
action. Draw crowns and add faces to show Herod’s feelings in the story:
1. Herod is disturbed to hear of a baby king (Matt. 2:1-3).
2. He is sneaky and asks the Magi to find the baby (Matt. 2:7-8).
3. He is furious when the Magi do not come back to him (Matt. 2:16).
WHO IS THIS KING?
Jesus was courageous. He knew that when He came down from
heaven, he would face evil – even as a baby!
• Do you need courage to face something or someone? Write
down what it is. Then ask courageous Jesus for help.
Jesus also brings us hope in an evil world where sometimes innocent
ones are murdered.
• Do you feel discouraged about a problem at home, in school, or
anywhere? Write it down. Then ask Jesus to give you hope.
Jesus was humble, growing up in Nazareth. Circle the sentences below
that are true:
1. Everyone thought Nazareth was a great city.
2. People laughed when they heard someone was from Nazareth.
3. Jesus was willing to live in a poor family in a crummy little town.
NO KING OR RULER CAN STOP GOD’S PLAN.
King Herod is like the kings talked about Psalm 2:1-6. Fill in the blanks.
B. King Jesus is protected from Herod by His Father.
God did some amazing things in this story! Read the list below. Can you
find the 2 items that are not true and cross them out?
• The Magi gave valuable gifts to little Jesus and his poor parents.
• In a dream, God warned the Magi not to go back to Herod.
• An angel warned Joseph to take Mary and little Jesus and flee
from Herod to Egypt.
• Soldiers protected Jesus as he traveled.
• Joseph and Mary probably used the Magi’s gifts to buy food and
shelter in Egypt.
• God gave them a pot of food that never ran out.
• When Herod died, an angel told Joseph it was safe in Israel.
• In a dream, Joseph learned that it was not wise to go back to
Bethlehem, so they moved to Nazareth instead.
