In 1900 when the university was first established, an initial investment was made. The leaders
who established Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute may not have known exactly what
kind of impact that investment would have, but they did envision what they hoped the university
would become. Today, nearly 17,000 students attend UL Lafayette and the university is in a position
for tremendous growth. A growth that would not be possible without the generosity of our donors.
Our donors recognize the importance of investing in higher education. An investment to UL Lafayette
involves much more than a dollar figure. It is an investment in the students who attend the university
today and in the future. It’s an investment in the faculty, to ensure top tier educators and researchers
come to Lafayette and stay. It’s an investment in athletics and the coaches who will take our teams
to the next level.
No matter what the investment is, it has an impact. Whether the degree of the impact is small or
large, it has a far reaching effect. An effect that allows us to envision a university with thousands
of new students, professors recognized for their breakthrough research and an athletic program
with national rankings and conference titles.
110 years ago, there were only 100 students and eight faculty on campus. It is amazing to see the
impact an investment can have.
