Peter Merrild reported on our Alumni<br />
Association which now has over 10,000<br />
members and introduced his successor<br />
Miss Maryam Farahani as the new FoIN<br />
Co-ordinator for 2006.<br />
Mr Jeff Lange, the SID Co-ordinator (Seminar<br />
on <strong>IAESTE</strong> Development) presented his<br />
fi nal report to the Conference on the work<br />
which followed the 20th SID<br />
which was held in Ljubljana,<br />
Slovenia in April 2005 and<br />
handed over the reins to<br />
Mr Thomas Faltner as the<br />
new SID Co-ordinator, from<br />
<strong>IAESTE</strong> Austria.<br />
A comprehensive report was delivered<br />
by the <strong>IAESTE</strong> Ombudsman, Professor<br />
Bernardo Herold who was thanked for his<br />
dedication to his new post.<br />
As required by the <strong>IAESTE</strong> A.s.b.l. Statutes,<br />
new members were elected to the Board.<br />
Mr Goran Radnović, National Secretary<br />
<strong>IAESTE</strong> Serbia and Montenegro, replaced the<br />
outgoing Board member Mr Celso Garcia<br />
who resigned from the post of National<br />
Secretary <strong>IAESTE</strong> Brazil after many years of<br />
dedicated service to <strong>IAESTE</strong> at home and at<br />
international level. Mr Jan Konecny, <strong>IAESTE</strong><br />
Czech Republic, took the place vacated<br />
by the outgoing Board member Mr Uroš<br />
Kovšca, <strong>IAESTE</strong> Slovenia who was thanked<br />
for his contribution to the Association during<br />
his term of offi ce.<br />
<strong>IAESTE</strong> Portugal will host the next <strong>Annual</strong><br />
Conference in Lisbon from 20-25 January<br />
2007 and the organisers gave a detailed<br />
presentation of their arrangements for this<br />
prestigious event in the <strong>IAESTE</strong> calendar.<br />
During the week long Conference<br />
<strong>IAESTE</strong> Malta provided delegates with<br />
some social events which included the<br />
On the Saturday evening, in spite of inclement<br />
weather, we experienced a Maltese evening<br />
in Razzett I-Antik, Qormi with traditional<br />
fare in a typical Maltese restaurant. The hotel<br />
provided the venue for the International<br />
Evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by<br />
everyone. On Wednesday afternoon all<br />
participants stopped work and enjoyed a<br />
few hours touring the capital Valletta which<br />
included a visit to the magnifi cent St John’s<br />
Co-Cathedral and an amazing view of the<br />
Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka<br />
Gardens. The Farewell Gala dinner, held<br />
in the Mediterranean Conference Centre<br />
Valletta was attended by the Conference<br />
Honorary President and Mr Edward Ebejer<br />
from one of the sponsoring Companies,<br />
Maltese Enterprise and proved to be a fi tting<br />
venue for our fi nal event of the Conference.<br />
The GS introduced the two new Members<br />
of the Board, Mr Goran Radnović and Mr<br />
Jan Konency and presented the NS <strong>IAESTE</strong><br />
Brazil with a token of her appreciation for<br />
Celso Garcia, outgoing Board member. She<br />
then invited Ms Ginny Arnold, NS <strong>IAESTE</strong><br />
Canada to thank the former FoIN Coordinator<br />
Peter Merrild for his contribution<br />
to our Alumni network for the last two years.<br />
Mr Goran Radnović made a presentation to<br />
the NS and Chairman <strong>IAESTE</strong> Australia, Jacki<br />
O’Connor and Jeff Hill who have worked so<br />
hard to re establish <strong>IAESTE</strong> in Australia and<br />
whose presence at future Conferences will<br />
be sorely missed. Ms Christina Vakomies,<br />
NS <strong>IAESTE</strong> UK then had the unenviable task<br />
of bidding farewell to our long standing IDT<br />
Co-ordinator Kim Jensen whose work since<br />
1998 has provided <strong>IAESTE</strong> with excellent<br />
IT services. The GS then announced<br />
that <strong>IAESTE</strong> UK was in top position for<br />
Administrators of the Year 2005 as judged<br />
by their exchange partners through the<br />
Questionnaire on Administrative Effi ciency<br />
and presented them with mementoes of<br />
their stay in Malta.<br />
The President, Mr Lucien Seywert thanked<br />
the sponsors for all their support and <strong>IAESTE</strong><br />
Malta for their tireless efforts during the<br />
Conference. <strong>IAESTE</strong> Malta then presented<br />
the General Secretary and the President with<br />
gifts to mark the occasion.<br />
The Board, Members and Co-operating<br />
Institutions extend their special thanks to<br />
<strong>IAESTE</strong> Malta, in particular to Mr Robert<br />
Cordina, Mr Mark Pace Balzan, Ms Anne<br />
Marie Mayo, NS <strong>IAESTE</strong> Malta and Ms<br />
Albina Pace, Conference Secretary for all<br />
their patience and goodwill throughout the<br />
Conference. Thanks are also due to the<br />
many helpers for all their support and hard<br />
work during the week.<br />
We also thank the Conference Honorary<br />
President, the Hon. Censu Galea, Minister<br />
for Competitiveness and Communication<br />
for giving of his valuable time to attend the<br />
Opening ceremony and Farewell Dinner.<br />
Our grateful thanks must also go to the<br />
Sponsors who supported <strong>IAESTE</strong> Malta.<br />
Finally thanks are conveyed to the<br />
management and staff of the Jerma Palace<br />
