International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience CHINESE TAIPEI The Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) was admitted as a new Co-operating Institution in IAESTE in 2005, which was a very exciting time in the history of our organisation. IEET is the recognised accreditor of college and university programmes in engineering in Taiwan. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure the quality of the education students receive. IEET was attracted to two core elements of IAESTE, the practical experience and the internationalisation of educational experience. These are the same principals we promote through our accreditation work and that is why we joined the IAESTE family. Through the IAESTE activities, we hope to expand the knowledge horizon and world view of our students in Taiwan and we also hope that students from the world would come here and see what we can offer. Our fi rst Annual Conference was memorable in nearly every aspect. Starting from the hosting country, Malta, which is beautiful in its landscape and its people. None of us in our delegation had ever been to Malta, so that was a very sweet and exciting experience for us. In our observations, IAESTE is wonderful because of its people. This is something we experienced fi rst hand for the first time at the Conference. Over the course of the meetings, we had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and we learned so much information and on top of everything else, many of them were very young! We were most amazed by the amount of confi dence, knowledge and the positive attitude of these young folks. In addition, the most unforgettable experience to me has to be the amazing support that we received. Because of a late start, we did not bring many offers to the Conference, yet, many countries were willing to trade and agreed to wait for our offers. I was moved by this sense of trust and open-mindedness. And, of course, how could anyone forget the International Night! The experience of the diverse food, music, costumes, languages… that will stay with us for a very, very long time. I A E S T E — A N N U A L R E V I E W 2 0 0 6 Perspectives THE EMPLOYER who offers … BARS COMPANY – 10 YEARS OF CO-OPERATION WITH IAESTE Bars is one of the most rapidly developing Companies in Tajikistan. Founded in April 1993 its activities were originally focused on food wholesale and retail business but realising the importance of developing a spirit of entrepreneurship to create employment at a National level the Company undertook in 1994 some very important steps in the reorganisation and development of its business structure. Currently, the Company provides employment opportunities for over 1000 employees who operate its six different “daughter” Companies. BARS associated firms are working successfully and profitably. The firm and its employees and specialists put all of their efforts into increasing the productivity and effi ciencies of their respective branches. BARS highly appreciates the activity of IAESTE as it is providing students with good working opportunities to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and for expanding the horizons of their knowledge of developing technologies. The Company does its best to provide foreign students with fruitful and meaningful internships. Many foreign students with majors in Food Technology and Engineering Sciences have had their internships in associated firms “MMK” and “Saykhun”. In addition, many Tajik students who gained work experience abroad through IAESTE are now working in the fi rms and the Companies appreciate the skills and experience former students bring to their jobs. Mirzobakhtier Mirzobakhadurov President of the Bars Company Being a Board member of the National Committee of IAESTE Tajikistan for the last 10 years I have a chance to constantly observe the IAESTE role in developing the potential of the younger generation both in the National and International context. This is the major thing that attracts me most in this Association. With sincere aspiration we will remain permanent partners with IAESTE to stay in the process of providing industries and businesses with well qualifi ed specialists. PERSPECTIVES 19
