COLLEGE OF MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 2008-2009 COACHING STAFF (Continued) Assistant Coach Rodney Morgan Rodney Morgan begins his fourth season on the Mount’s staff. He also has 15 years of coaching experience at Lawrenceburg Community Schools in football, basketball and track & field. Coach Morgan and his wife, Donna, have three daughters, two who graduated from Franklin College and another is a senior at Saint Mary’s College. He and his wife reside in Greendale, Ind. Assistant Coach Steve Bock Steve Bock returns for his second season as an assistant coach for the Mount. He is a Roger Bacon High School graduate, who played two seasons of basketball at Wilmington College and graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Sports Studies degree. Bock, who works at High Tech Systems and Equipment in Harrison, Ohio, as well as for the Cincinnati Bengals field crew, has coached basketball at St. Francis DeSales in Lebanon, Ohio. He resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. Assistant Coach Grayson Rhoades Grayson Rhoades begins his first season as a Mount assistant. Rhoades is a 2004 graduate of LaSalle High School, where he played varsity basketball and baseball. He also played two years of basketball at the Mount, before an injury ended his playing career. Rhoades is expected to graduate from the Mount in December 2008 with a liberal arts degree and is working towards a master’s degree in special education. He is currently working at the Cincinnati Recreation Commission coaching younger children as well as hosting open gyms. Coach Rhoades resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. 2008-2009 RETURNING PLAYERS’ PROFILES 44 Shaun Alexander Forward • Sophomore Major: Sport Management Height: 6-4 High School: Hamilton Badin (Fairfield, OH) Alexander returns for his second season with the Mount. He saw action in 21 games last season as a freshman, all off the bench and looks to expand his role more this season. Alexander has a high basketball IQ and is one of the Lions more efficient players on the court. Although Alexander is not as tall as other forwards in the conference, his technique and knowledge of the game allows him to play at a high level. Shaun is the son of Darroll and Janet Alexander. He played in 18 games last season as one of the team’s first substitutes off the bench. Brown is hoping to parlay that experience into a more prominent role this winter. He is one of the team’s best athletes, and has the wingspan of a 6-foot-7 player, which allows him to play well above the rim. 1 Chris Cioffi Guard • Senior Major: Sport Management Height: 5-11 High School: Loyalsock Twp. (Williamsport, PA) Cioffi returns for his second season with the Mount. He played in 19 games last season, averaging about 7 ½ minutes per game, and is looking for a breakout season in his senior year this winter. Cioffi is a fearless shooter, who is extremely effective behind the three-point line, after hitting 11-of-22 long-range shots last season. He is working hard to finetune other aspects of his game to insure more consistent playing time at the guard position, according to Coach Cox. Chris is the son of Patricia and Ronald Cioffi. Loramie (Ft. Loramie, OH) Goldschmidt returns for his second season with the Mount. He played in all 25 games last season and was a starter in 19 games, finishing third on the team in points per game fourth in rebounds and fourth in assists in 2007-08. Goldschmidt was the Mount’s top three-point threat last season, converting on 40 percent of three-point attempts (56-for- 141). He was an Honorable Mention All-HCAC selection last season, and was second on the team in steals, and third in scoring average and free throw percentage. Goldschmidt is looking for an even greater finish to his career. He is an explosive scorer, who can score inside and out, and has worked hard to round out his allaround game. Goldschmidt will be a Mount team captain this season and will be expected to provide consistency on and off the court and help the team to a successful season. He played in all 25 games last season, including six starts and improved his statistics in every offensive category last season. Huffman had a solid all-around season in 2007-08, averaging nearly eight points per game, converting on 49 percent from the field and 51 percent (21-of-41) from behind the three-point arc. Offensively he continued to show he can shoot well as well as have the ability to attack the basket off the dribble. Huffman defensively showed good court awareness and understanding of team concepts. The Lions’ team leader is a fiery competitor, and will be a captain this season.
