COLLEGE OF MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 2008-2009 FIRST-YEAR PLAYERS’ PROFILES 24 Nate Carroll Wing • Freshman Major: Business Height: 6-4 High School: Daleville (Daleville, IN) Carroll joins the Lions for his first season. While in high school he received nine varsity letters between track, cross country, baseball and basketball. Carroll was a four-year starter and senior captain in basketball and is his high school’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,442 pts; and holds school records for three pointers in a game and career free throw percentage. In addition, he holds school records for single season free throw percentage (87%), steals in a single game (10), steals in a career (179), and three-pointers in a career (201). During his senior season he averaged 24.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and connected on 87% from the free throw line. He was voted MVP the past two years while leading his team to their first sectional title in 23 years. He won the Delaware County scoring title and Delaware County three-point title as a junior and averaged 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 85.3% from the free throw line. The past three seasons he was named First Team All-MEC (Mid-Eastern Conference) and First Team All-Delaware County. As a senior, Carroll became one of only five players in Daleville High School history to score 1000 points, was named First Team All-ECI (East Central Indiana), was an Indiana Top 10 Leading Scorer, selected to Indiana’s Post Your All-Star Team, named an Indiana Top 100 Player, and chosen to be an Indiana State High Honorable Mention All-Star Team. He was also on his school’s Honor Roll. John is the son of Trish and Ed Carroll. He played forward and center in high school, averaging eight points and five rebounds per game his senior season. Faust was also named Defensive Player of the Year for his senior season, was awarded an Academic Honors Diploma, was in the National Honor Society, and was a Student Rotarian. Jacob is the son of Karan and Jay Faust. He received two varsity letters while in high school, and was a two-year starter. Gloss averaged four points and four rebounds per game in limited play during his senior season and won H.M.A.C., All-Sectional, Team Most Improved and Best Free Throw Percentage awards during his final campaign. In addition, he played on his school’s football team, was on the A-B Honor Roll, and in the Key Club. Michael is the son of Margaret and William Gloss. 14 VJ Evans Wing • Freshman Major: Graphic Design Height: 6-4 High School: Chaminade-Julienne (Dayton, OH) Evans joins the Lions for his first season. While in high school he received two varsity letters, was a senior starter and captain for his high school team. Evans played in 20 games his senior season and averaged five points and three rebounds per game. He was voted his team’s Most Improved Player for his senior campaign. VJ is the son of Vincent Evans Sr. and Angela Vaughn. 2008-2009 MEN’S BASKETBALL GUIDE 31 Myles Hornsby Forward • Freshman Major: Athletic Training Height: 6-4 High School: Rising Sun (Rising Sun, IN) Hornsby joins the Lions for his first season. He played both guard and forward in high school and averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists per game his senior season. In addition, he was selected All- Conference his junior and senior seasons, and was named an Indiana High School All-Star his senior season. Hornsby graduated fifth in his class and was Spanish Club President. Myles is the son of Terry and Andre Hornsby. He played forward and guard in high school and averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game his senior season. Jackson was named a Second Team All-Conference performer and was the second leading rebounder in the Fort Ancient Valley Cardinal division. He was selected to play in the SWOBCA District 16 East/West All-Star game. Jackson was named All-City and All-Press during his career and he was a team captain. While in high school he played multiple positions, and gained three varsity letters, as well as was a two-year starter and captain. Kendall averaged 10.5 points per game, five rebounds per game and two assists per game his junior season; and 12 points per game, six rebounds per game and two assists per game his senior season. In addition, Kendall was his team’s top scorer his junior season, made the Toyota Classic All-Academic Team, and was a 34th District All-Tourney selection. His senior season he was won the Kenton County Classic 3.0 Award, made the Kenton County Classic All-Tourney team, was an NKAC All-Conference and All-City Honorable Mention winner. Kendall was also on his school’s honor roll. Kyle is the son of Becky and Rockie Kendall.
