The provision for pension costs relates to the compensation element of the former Early
Retirement Package payable to officers who were over the age of 50 but below the age of
60. On attaining the age of 60 the compensation element ceases.
Compensation payments relate to claims for accidents to staff of Historic Scotland and
visitors to the monuments. It is expected that final settlement of these claims will be made
within 2008/09.
Other provisions relate to a dispute with a supplier. The assessment of costs due to be paid
by Historic Scotland is £400k.
