3- SINAI MANGANESE COMPANY (Abou Zenima – South<br />
Sinai):<br />
(SMC) was founded on the 18th of May 1957, to exploit the manganese deposits in Sinai Peninsula,<br />
Egypt. The company succeeded to replace the British Sinai Mining Company which ceased its operations<br />
in June 1960 the mandate of SMC was expanded to include exploration of other economic mineral sources<br />
such as Kaolin, Gypsum, Bentonite, Sand and Manganese ore.<br />
The company began the exploitation of sand deposits from Gabal El Khashab near Maadi District Cairo.<br />
Starting 1990 the production of calcined gypsum (Plaster of Paris) started in the industrial plant built in<br />
Ras Malaab <strong>with</strong> a capacity of 300000 tons/years. In 1993 the production of high carbon Ferro Manganese<br />
started in the plant built in Abu Zenima area <strong>with</strong> a capacity of 40000 tons / year.<br />

5- DANIELI – EZZ Project – EL SOKHNA:<br />
EZZ Rolling Mills of Giza, Egypt has signed contracts <strong>with</strong> Danieli & Co. and Tenova HYL, for the turnkey<br />
supply of a 1.9 million t/year capacity Energiron III direct reduction plant. The plant will be located at<br />
the company’s premises in Ain Suhkna, Suez, Egypt. The new Energiron plant is designed to produce 1.9<br />
million t/year of cold discharge DRI. The shaft furnace will be the world’s largest in terms of productivity<br />
from a single production unit. Startup of the plant is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2011.<br />

THE QHSE DEPARTMENT NEWS<br />
The QHSE department began to give a safety lectures and training to all ECO staff to increase their safety awareness and<br />
elevate the safety culture to our company as our top manager objective this year which was chosen to be safety year for<br />
all ECO.<br />
The beginning of the HSE implementation was started <strong>with</strong> LRSN-M consultant eng. Ahmed sameh to awarding the certificate<br />
of the occupational health and safety quality management system certificate ISO 18001:2007 and the environmental<br />
quality management system ISO 14001:2004.<br />
Our QHSE department put a target time to awarding this certificate after maximum two months.<br />
The HSE manager eng. Mohammed safwat makes many visits to Port Said site impresub to implement our ECO safety standard<br />
and make a site visit to MAKRO project to evaluate the safety situation and safety plan required.<br />
