Course on Palliative Care for 

10 th passed candidates

RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust (13, Ragavaiah Road, T. Nagar,

Palliative Care for students who have successfully completed Std. 10. 

The certificate is provided by IGNOU Community College (New 

Delhi). 

The course provides hands-on training in nursing, empathy with 

terminally ill patients, holistic care, counseling patients and their 

attendants and psychology. 

In the past 4 years since the course was started, more than 200 

students have benefited and a number of them have got employed in 

hospitals and in home care service organizations, according to Dr. 

Republica Sridhar (Founder and Medical Director). 

The registration form costing Rs. 50 will be available on weekdays 

from 10.30 a.m to 12.30 p.m. 

Dr. Republica Sridhar told Mambalam Times that the Trust has been 

providing free pain treatment and palliative care to needy persons for 

18 years. 

Home care is provided at a nominal fee. 

She also runs ‘Karuna Sagar’ in 4/126, Krishna Nagar, 1 st Main Road, 

Maduravoyal and in Madurai, each of which provides free terminal care 

for 20 patients. 

She has done a special course on ‘Palliative Care’ in Britain, she said. 

She conducts awareness programs on ‘Palliative care’ through 

various organizations like Lions and Rotary Clubs, educational institutions 

and NGOs. 

She said that she provides free treatment for needy patients and 

charges a nominal fee for others. 

She has appealed for volunteers to conduct awareness programs and 

to converse with patients in her centre. 

500 participate in summer 

spiritual camp 


More than 500 students from all over India participated in the 69 th 

free summer spiritual camp held in S. S. S. Jain College for Women, T 

Nagar. 

The camp, which started on May 13 and concludes tomorrow, is being 

conducted by A. B. S. S. Jaymal Jain Shravak Sangh (Chennai Wing). 

The participants were trained in meditation and taught the values 

of vegetarianism, ahimsa and other moral values in life. 

Heavy rush in browsing centres 

to view 12 th exam results 

Browsing centers did good business on May 22, the day the 12 th 

standard State Board exam results were declared online. 

Students without internet facility at their homes rushed to nearby 

browsing centers to check on their results. 

Browsing centers were charging Rs. 10 per result. This year, schools 

did not receive hard copy of the results and also had to go online to 

download the results of their students, print and paste them on their 

notice boards. 

Renewal of cancelled ration cards 

in 60 days 


A large number of ration cards which were not renewed during the 

period of Jan. 1 to March 31 have been cancelled and issue of commodities 

against them have been stopped. 

If the holders of such cancelled cards apply for new ones along with 

supporting documents, they will be issued within 60 days. 

For those who need the cards only as an address proof and not to 

purchase commodities, the cards will be issued in 10 days after 

verification of their address. 

Similarly, thatkal cards will also be issued in 10 days, after verification 

of the address. The thatkal cards can be used for obtaining 

passports and admitting children in schools, but cannot be used to 

purchase commodities.

consultation on the proposed 

Redevelopment of T, Nagar on 

May 24, Mayor Saidai S. 

Duraisamy and Corporation 

officials presented a package 

deal to decongest a 7 square 

kilometer area around Panagal 

Park. 

The proposals include the 

pedestrianisation of Thyagaraya 

Road, South Usman 

Road and the areas around 

Panagal Park which will increase 

the pedestrian circulation 

space in T, Nagar 

from 8,000 sq. ft to 28,000 sq. 

ft. 

The package includes an elevated 

skywalk connecting 

Mambalam Railway Station 

with T. Nagar bus terminus, 

redesigning of Panagal Park 

and multi-level car parking at 

four locations, providing slots 

for 1636 cars and 1,480 twowheelers. 

The plan also envisages earmarked 

space for 1,180 vendors.

Inauguration of Annai Ashram’s new 

premises on June 1 


The inauguration of the 

newly constructed 2400 sq.ft 

premises of Sri Annai Ashram 

(59, Arya Gowda Road, West 

Mambalam) will take place 

on June 1 (Prosperity Day). 

According to Annai Adigal 

(Managing Trustee), the 

ashram had its humble beginnings 

in 2008 in a much 

smaller building at the same 

address. Due to ever-increasing 

patronage, there was a 

severe constraint of space and 

the construction of a bigger 

building was taken up. 

He thanked its patrons and 

donors for their contributions 

for the construction of the new 

building. To commemorate the 

occasion, there will be a special 

darshan at 5 p.m followed 

by bhajans.

the activities of the ashram. 

The ashram which was temporarily 

functioning on

G. Gajalakshmi Ammal 

(resident of 60/33, Subramaniam 

Street, West Mambalam) 

passed away on May 

16. 

She was 83 and had been 

a resident of West Mambalam 

for more than 40 

years. Gajalakshmi is survived by her sons 

Sreenivasan and Ravikumar and daughters 

Gowri and Mallika and grandchildren.

V. Seshagiri (resident of

Mambalam) passed away 

on May 21. He was 83 and 

had been a resident of West 

Mambalam for more than 

60 years. 

He had retired as Headmaster 

of C. Abdul Hakim 

High School, Chennai. 

He also served as the President of Madhwa 

Sangham. 

He had conducted regular Vedic classes on 

Madhwa philosophies and translated a number 

of Madhwa philosophy books in Tamil. 

He is survived by his sons Venkatara-manan 

and Gopalakrishnan, daughter Hema, grandchildren 

and great grandchildren.
