Objectives Broad An integrated approach to mitigate flooding and land degradation in the catchment Specifics • The project aims to generate greater awareness and knowledge on sustainable land management amongst the public and targeted audience. • The project works toward strengthening skills and abilities of officers, farmers and land users on adoption of SLM. Strategies 1. Conduct Biophysical Survey • Present Land Use • Soils • Land Use Capability • Land Tenure (Ownership) 2. Conduct Awareness and Training on targeted communities • Land degradation‐Causes and its effects both on‐site and off‐site • Soil conservation‐SLM technologies (contouring, contour hedgerows, agroforestry etc.)
3.Participatory Land Use Planning • To enable the rural population and relevant institutions develop an integrated land use plan using participatory approaches • Establish a land use planning procedure that comprises the view of all concerned actors (women, men, rural villagers, local decision makers) • To facilitate the rural population in the management of their local resources 4. Establishment of SLM Demo Farms • Demonstration plots are to be established in the Nadi Basin as models and assists in the training and awareness activities in promoting sustainable land management practices. • These demonstration plots or model farms shows the different types of good adoptable land husbandry practices suitable for the Nadi catchment and will assist in training the communities in promoting such practices. • The project will try to establish as many as possible in different locations accessible to the communities. It will publish and distribute a number of brochures, leaflets, posters, and conduct field days, training and workshops for all land users.
