Homecoming (Personnel: Larry Goldigns, Jeff Hamilton, Jim Keltner) [2009] A possible breakout album
for Anthony Wilson, this organ trio with the superb Larry Goldings on B3 features two of the finest drummers
working today - half the tunes are with the swinging Jeff Hamilton on drums and the rest session drummer
par excellence Jim Keltner who lays down some truly great percussion. Aside from Wilson’s exploration
of Latin, south of the border influences, the recording features unique performances of music by Ellington,
Hawkins, Jerry Goldsmith and Van Dyke Parks. Recorded direct to 2-track pure analog in the legendary
Oceanway Studio A in Hollywood. [Item Code: 64040 CD: $15.00]
Georgia Brown (#2) • It’s The Talk Of The Town • Tea For Two • Introduction • Royal Garden Blues • Body And Soul • I Got Rhythm (Personnel:
Count Basie, Allan Reuss, Lucky Thompson, Dickie Wells, more) [1945] This CD features the musical
performances from three Lamplighter shows, May through September 1945. The guest roster for the programs
was drawn from the ranks of the Count Basie and Harry James bands. Harry was then appearing at the
Casino Gardens Ballroom in Ocean Park, near Los Angeles. The Casino Gardens was jointly owned by Harry
and Tommy Dorsey, who were doing most of their work on the West Coast during this period, including
many film appearances for MGM and 20th Century-Fox. Informality was the key word for The Lamplighter.
As the announcer on one of these broadcast remarks, the show was ‘unrehearsed and devoted to the expression
of ad-lib jazz without any commercial intent.’ About the only rehearsed portion of the programs were
the regular plugs for the U.S. Coast Guard, which sponsored the series. In retrospect, that informality, rare in
1940s radio, is the hallmark of these performances - allowing some Swing Era greats to blow at their best,
unfettered by time constraints or the smothering cloak of a big band. [Item Code: 64452 CD: $15.00]
• Old Folks • Moody’s Groove (Personnel: Todd Coolman, Adam Nussbaum) [2006] James Moody and Hank Jones have never before been
intentionally paired to engage in a musical meeting of the minds that draws on their combined 140 years (give or take a few) of jazz performance
experience. Finally, at long last, they meet here to collaborate and compare notes. Sit back and enjoy the
fruits of their labors. They have devoted their lives to this moment, and many more like it, to be sure. Let
your elders lead you to the truth and beauty in this music called jazz. [Item Code: 63396 CD: $17.00]
of this musical genre. Featuring the most famous of all Doo-Wop songs which were pop and•or R&B
hits between 1954 and 1958. A large proportion of these songs have been given a new lease of life as major
pop hits. Amongst these are Dean Martin’s, ‘The Door Is Still Open To My Heart’, Kylie Minogue’s ‘Tears
On My Pillow’, The Darts, ‘Come Back My Love’, Dion’s ‘Ruby Baby’, Herman’s Hermit’s ‘Silhouettes’, Pat
Boone’s ‘I’ll Be Home’ and Bobby Vee’s ‘Devil Or Angel’. Also Featured are both the tracks in the UK TV
commercial for ‘Dreams’ beds - ‘In The Still Of The Night’ - The Five Satins and ‘Oh What A Night’ - The
Dells. This endearing genre has lasted for over 60 years and has been provided with a new lease of life in
the CD era. [Item Code: 64309 2-CD: $17.00]
