5.6.2 PUBLICATIONS
Online support is invaluable, but sometimes you need to be able to thumb
through a hard copy to have the information you need, literally at your fingertips.
In 2008, we produced a number of publications that are essential additions to any
community or voluntary organisation’s library.
GETTING TO GRIPS WITH GOVERNANCE GUIDE
The governing board of a community or voluntary group is vital to the success
of the organisation. We published the Getting to Grips with Governance guide
to help board members ensure that the organisation they represent and govern
is both effective and accountable.
Part of our Solid Foundations series of management guides, Getting to Grips with Governance gives
information about a board’s functions, roles, responsibilities and potential liabilities, whilst encouraging
best practice and offering other information and resources.
During 2008, The Wheel, in co-operation with Boardmatch, hosted seven governance workshops around
the country as part of our launch of the Getting to Grips with Governance guide, and these were both
well attended and widely praised for their efficacy. For your copy, contact The Wheel, or visit our website
PAY AND BENEFITS SURVEY
To help organisations assess their own pay and benefits structures and to assist with planning and
budgeting, The Wheel commissioned Ireland’s first-ever Pay and Benefits Survey of community,
voluntary and charitable organisations.
Kindly sponsored by consulting and recruiting firm 2into3 and charity website mycharity.ie, and
conducted by Sonraí HR Research, this invaluable survey of over 300 organisations also enables our
sector to strive towards greater parity with the supports available to other sectors. The survey revealed
a high demand for professional skills in the community and voluntary sector.
Members of The Wheel are entitled to one free copy (per organisation), and the survey may be
purchased via www.wheel.ie.
