5 SUPPORTING COMMUNITY AND
VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
5.1 CAPACITY BUILDING EVENTS
Throughout the year The Wheel operates a full schedule of events designed to help build
organisations’ capacity to achieve their goals. These events cover a wide range of topics, such as
governance, management, fundraising, communications and information technology, as well as
offering valuable networking and partnership opportunities for participants. To enable the widest
possible participation, we deliver them in venues throughout the country.
Our annual programme of events is a vital part of our service to the sector, and, reflecting its importance,
we hired a full-time Director of Programmes in July 2008. Already, this initiative has resulted in a more
focused and responsive programme of events, tailored to the specific needs of the sector.
