Miracle Day
Wal-Mart &
SAM’S CLUBS
Tom Montgomery, with the Wal-Mart/SAM’S CLUB
Foundation, poses with former Arkansas Children’s
Hospital patient Jenna King (far right) and her mother,
Kay Beck, who works at the Wal-Mart in Monticello.
“You are the heart and soul of what we do,” said Dr.
Jonathan Bates, ACH president and CEO, to welcome the
200-plus associates and other special guests at the 2006
Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB Miracle Day at Arkansas
Children’s Hospital.
“Your name is all over this place, and what you do
makes an enormous difference for us,” continued Bates.
“We depend heavily on donors like you, and we thank
you.”
Miracle Day is a special day planned each year to honor
Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB associates for their fundraising
efforts during the last campaign year and to kick off efforts
for the next campaign.
The theme of the day, “The Heart of the Matter,” related
to one of the Wal-Mart/SAM’S CLUB 2006 funding priorities,
the purchase of specialty monitors for the ACH Heart
Center.
Dr. Robert Jaquiss, chief of pediatric cardiovascular surgery
at ACH, spoke to guests about the Heart Center and
how their donation of new monitors
will make a difference.
“Your donation will translate to real
lives touched, helped and even
saved,” said Jaquiss. “New technology is
very expensive, and thanks to folks like
you, we are able to stay at the forefront.”
Tom Montgomery, Wal-Mart/SAM’S CLUB corporate
giving manager, spoke to the associates, thanking them
for their efforts in 2005, which resulted in a total donation
of $1,066,106. He also encouraged them to keep
telling the stories of Arkansas Children’s Hospital and
asking for the gift.
“Thanks to the generosity of associates, customers and
members, Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB have raised and
donated more than $15 million to Arkansas Children’s
Hospital through Children’s Miracle Network over the
past 22 years,” said Montgomery. “We are all fortunate to
live in the state of Arkansas, where so many generous
people support our world-class children’s hospital,
Arkansas Children’s Hospital.”
Montgomery introduced Mark Larsen, vice president
and regional general manager for Arkansas and southern
Missouri.
“I am so excited that we are a part of the Arkansas
Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network,” said
Larsen. “This Miracle Day celebration is a wonderful tribute
to our outstanding associates, and the
children we are able to help are precious.
There is no better cause.”
The group also heard from CMN representatives,
received awards for their fundraising
efforts and toured the hospital.
