1.0 Call To Order<br />

Kendra Charles called the meeting to order at 5:45pm. Everyone introduced themselves<br />

again.<br />

2.0 Dr. Brian Postl, CEO, WRHA -- Dr. Brian Postl provided Council members with an<br />

update on what’s happening at the WRHA and answered questions from Council<br />

members.<br />

3.0 Agenda – Thursday, <strong>January</strong> <strong>10</strong>, <strong>2008</strong><br />

RESOLVED THAT the agenda of <strong>January</strong> <strong>10</strong>, <strong>2008</strong> be approved as circulated.<br />

4.0 <strong>Minutes</strong> – November 5, 2007<br />

RESOLVED THAT the minutes of November 5, 2007 be approved as circulated.<br />

5.0 Business Arising:<br />

5.1 Update on Community Perspectives Report for the Community Health<br />

Assessment – discussion notes from the Councils have been forwarded to the<br />

Research and Evaluation Unit at the WRHA for inclusion into the <strong>2008</strong><br />

Community Health Assessment. Colleen will be e-mailing a draft of the report to<br />

Council members for their feedback. This report will contain background<br />

information and some regional analysis will be presented to the WRHA Board by<br />

Chairs/Co-Chairs of the <strong>CHAC</strong>’s on February 26, <strong>2008</strong>. After the presentation, the<br />

report will be posted on the WRHA website and be distributed internally and<br />

externally.<br />

5.2 Issues that Impact the Health of Immigrants and Refugees – second meeting.<br />

5.2.1 Additions/corrections to discussion notes from the last meeting. Council<br />

members were provided with an opportunity to share additional comments<br />

and make corrections to the notes from the last meeting.<br />

5.2.2 Council members were asked to share the names of organizations,<br />

programs/services that address the needs of immigrants and refugees that<br />

were identified at the last meeting.<br />

5.2.3 Council members participated in a prioritization exercise to rank the<br />

importance/significance of the issues and their overall impact on the wellbeing<br />

of immigrants and refugees.<br />

1. Language and Cultural Barriers<br />

2. Lack of Awareness of Programs and Services Available to Them<br />

3. Poverty<br />

4. Housing<br />

5.2.4 Council members shared their suggestions for additional ways to address<br />

the priority issues that impact the health of immigrants and refugees.<br />

5.2.5 Colleen shared next steps with Council members. An electronic version of<br />

the draft of the report will be emailed to Council members for their<br />

feedback. This report will also be presented to the Board by Chairs/Co-<br />

Chairs of the Councils on February 26, <strong>2008</strong>. It will then be posted on the<br />

WRHA website and distributed internally and externally.<br />

6.0 Other Business:<br />

6.1 <strong>CHAC</strong> Recruitment – Colleen shared that recruitment for new members for the<br />

Community Health Advisory Councils has begun. A number of Council members are<br />

completing their 3 year terms in May and will need to be replaced by new volunteers<br />

who will start their terms in September.<br />

7.0 Meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm<br />
