You said
We will
• There is a general perception that Sunderland is
a clean city centre. However, empty or dilapidated
buildings can create an impression of neglect.
• More could be done to tackle litter dropping,
vandalism, and other anti-social behaviour.
• There is limited awareness among city centre
businesses of the council’s existing cleaning
and maintenance services, such as the rapid
response Helpline.
• The city centre could benefit from more greenery
and floral displays.
• Develop and maintain a pocket parks programme
to brighten areas of the city centre and encourage
a spread of floral displays and window boxes at
commercial premises.
• Work with absent landlords to improve the visual
appearance of empty or closed premises.
• Campaign to change litter-dropping behaviour and
promote the case for more recycling points, small
bins and ashtrays.
• Hold designated environmental/clean-up days
involving the public, businesses and city centre
communities.
• Work with businesses and the council to raise
awareness of existing services, and how businesses
can access rapid responses and support.
