3. Healthy baby Competition on 29th November, 2012 In co-ordination with Mother’s Care and Children Hospital, NRHM organized a Healthy Baby and Mother Competition on 29th November, 2012. Publicity was given through Hoardings, posters and newspaper ads. A total of 80 babies in the age group of 1-2 yrs turned up for the competition. A gift was also given to each participant. First, second and third prizes were given in the evening program at the BOAT. Dr. Ratan’s hospital sponsored the best three mothers. Some Home Remedies for Common Ailments. (Dr. K. Benedict) State Nodal Officer (AYUSH) 1) For Asthma:- Take 1tsp of pure honey with ¼ tsp of cinnamon powder and mix them well before consuming. For early stage of Asthma, perfect home remedy is to boil 8-10 gloves of garlic in ½ cup of milk and consume it during night time. 2) For backache:- lemon juice serves as an excellent home remedy for backache. Take 1 lemon and squeeze out its juice and add common salt to taste. Drink it twice in a day. Take about 10 small garlic pieces and fry them in sesame/mustard/coconut oil till the garlic turns brown. After cooling the oil apply it on the back and keep for about 3 hrs. in a couple of days you will feel its magical effect. 3) For cough:- Grapes help a great deal in treating cold in a few days. Consume 1 cup grape juice and also add 1 tsp of honey to it. Take it twice. One in the morning and one in the evening. 4) For common cold:- Take one glass of warm water and pour some lemon juice with 1 tsp of honey. Take once or twice on a daily basis for 2-3 days. Take 3-4 tsp of onion juice and mix with 3-4 tsp of honey, and consume for 2-3 days. 5) For common fever:- Grape juice is valuable in all types of fever. It also removes the burning sensation produced by the fever. ½ glass of grape juice should be taken with ½ glass of water. Another ideal food for all types of fever is orange. It provides energy, increases urine output and promotes body resistance against infection. It is especially effective when the digestive power of the body is seriously hampered. 6) For Diabetes:- Take about 15 fresh mango leaves and boil them in 1 glass of water. Keep them overnight. Grape fruit juice is also considered most beneficial for the Diabetes. Indian Gooseberry (Amla) serves as the best home remedy for the diabetes. Take 1tsp of Gooseberry juice and mix with a cup of bitter guard (Kerala) juice. Consume the mixture daily for about 2 months. 7) For Diarrhoea:- Take ripe banana and mash it properly. Add 1tsp of tamarind pulp and a pinch of salt to it. Take twice in a day. For Diarrhoea, consume a paste made of 15-20 fresh curry leaves mixed with 1tsp of honey. 8) For Earache:- Boil 3-4 clove of garlic in some water. Mash them and add a pinch of salt. Wrap this poultice in a funnel or woollen clothe and place on the aching ear. Pour some garlic juice in the paining ear. Its antibiotic quality helps to relief the pain. 9) For Headache:- Eat an apple with a little salt on an empty stomach and see the wonderful effect. When headache is cause by cold wind, cinnamon works best in curing headache. Make a paste to cinnamon by mixing with water and apply it all over the forehead. 3
