<str<strong>on</strong>g>Report</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>Focus</strong> <strong>Group</strong> Discussi<strong>on</strong> (<strong>FGD</strong>) <strong>held</strong> <strong>at</strong> Charoi II andRamgail<strong>on</strong>g Village <strong>on</strong> the 22 nd and the 23 rd August 2009 under N<strong>on</strong>eyPHC, Tamengl<strong>on</strong>g District.<strong>Focus</strong> <strong>Group</strong> Discussi<strong>on</strong> was used as a tool for BCC/IEC survey <strong>at</strong> two villagesie., Charoi II and Ramgail<strong>on</strong>g village <strong>on</strong> the 22 nd and the 23 rd of August 2009. The teammembers for these two villages were:1. Abuana G<strong>on</strong>mei (BPN) - Facilit<strong>at</strong>or2. Dinthaorei G<strong>on</strong>mei (BAFC) - Recorder3. G<strong>on</strong>gtha<strong>on</strong>gam Kamei (BDM) - Documentor4. Dr. Azin Maringmei (M.O. i/c) - Technical Staff5. Sis. Mariam Gangmei (ANM) - Technical staffCharoi II village <strong>on</strong> the 22 nd of Aug.Introducti<strong>on</strong>: Charoi II village comes under N<strong>on</strong>ey PHC. The issue chosen with thetargeted group are given below:Issue - Immuniz<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>Reas<strong>on</strong> _ Drop out r<strong>at</strong>e highTargeted group - 10 mothers whose children are under 5 yrs of ageThe Facilit<strong>at</strong>or welcomed the participants with a brief introducti<strong>on</strong> of the teammembers. The participants were briefed <strong>on</strong> the purpose of <strong>FGD</strong> in BCC/IEC.Analysis and Findings:The Facilit<strong>at</strong>or prepared 10 questi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> immuniz<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> which were asked to theparticipants during the discussi<strong>on</strong>. The mothers had to go to the N<strong>on</strong>ey PHC to immunizetheir children or to avail any health facilities. Sometimes they had to go back withoutimmunizing their children because vaccines were not available <strong>on</strong> the said d<strong>at</strong>e. Theyexpressed their desire th<strong>at</strong> the PHC should disp<strong>at</strong>ch <strong>at</strong> least 1 (<strong>on</strong>e) ANM to the villagefor immuniz<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> program. And in this way <strong>on</strong>ly, more children can be covered. Theyalso expressed th<strong>at</strong> the ASHA c<strong>on</strong>cerned should inform all the mothers about the d<strong>at</strong>eand day for immuniz<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>. Since children missed out the doses, there are cases of 7 or 8children suffering from measles during the <strong>FGD</strong> program.Health Talk <strong>on</strong> Immuniz<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> and the ideal time for giving the vaccines was givenby Sis. Mariam Gangmei, ANM for about 30 minutes. She cleared all the doubts raisedby the participants and the misc<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong>s. The <strong>FGD</strong> was successful.The sessi<strong>on</strong> ended with a few words from the facilit<strong>at</strong>or and a light refreshment

Ramgail<strong>on</strong>g Village <strong>on</strong> the 23 rd August 2009Introducti<strong>on</strong>: Ramgail<strong>on</strong>g Village comes under Awangkhul SC. The day being a Sunday,the number of participants is more than the targeted group.Issue - Family PlanningReas<strong>on</strong> for choosing – percentage of acceptance is very low.Target <strong>Group</strong> – 5 eligible couples = 10 nos.The Facilit<strong>at</strong>or welcomed the participants and introduced the team members.They were also briefed <strong>on</strong> <strong>NRHM</strong> and the purpose of <strong>FGD</strong> in BCC/IEC.Analysis and Findings:The Facilit<strong>at</strong>or prepared 10 questi<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> Family Planning which were asked tothe participants <strong>on</strong>e after another and their resp<strong>on</strong>ses were noted. The participants werefound to encourage small size families but were not very much aware about the ideal timeto start family planning. The participants feel shy to approach the doctors or nurses forfamily planning guidance. The women group has a neg<strong>at</strong>ive view <strong>on</strong> using Cu-T because<strong>on</strong>e particular woman became pregnant after two m<strong>on</strong>ths in spite of using Cu-T.Health talk <strong>on</strong> Family Planning and its advantages was given by Dr.Azin Maringmei, M.O. i/c of N<strong>on</strong>ey PHC in detail. He cleared all the doubts andmisc<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong>s raised by the participants. Topics <strong>on</strong> spacing methods, right age formarriage and permanent methods of family planning were explained al<strong>on</strong>g with the idealtime for using it.One participant asked in detail <strong>on</strong> how to go for vasectomy and he expressed th<strong>at</strong>he will mobilize other male members to go for it. The <strong>FGD</strong> program was successful withall the queries and questi<strong>on</strong>s being answered.The sessi<strong>on</strong> ended with a word of thanks from the facil<strong>at</strong>or and a lightrefreshment was served to all the participants present.Participants:1.
