Dear Friends:
Recently, there have been some “unholy” things happening in
our parking lot. On Sunday, one of my ushers, from the Noon
Mass, reported to me that the week prior (August 2), someone
hit his parked car while he was in church. That person never
even left a note with his/her name, phone number, etc., which
would have been beneficial to the insurance company and the
“Christian thing” to do. All that was left behind was $3,000 in
damage to the vehicle.
Also, it has come to my attention that some local contractors
as well as some parishioners have been depositing their refuse
in our trash, recycling and cardboard dumpsters, located in the
parking lot. Please know that these receptacles are for parish
use only, more specifically, the custodians and groups using
our facilities for a function. These are not community
property. Being a parishioner does not entitle one to throw
appliances, boxes, newspapers, garbage, broken furniture or
toys, old mattresses or discarded construction supplies in any
one of these dumpsters. Why? We have no room for our own
refuse. Secondly, why should the parish have to pay to haul
away items left by individual parishioners or contractors? Our
fee for trash removal is $1,236.00 per month. My head
custodian asked permission to post a sign which reads:
“These dumpsters are for parish use only. Violators will be
prosecuted.” It is sad that we have to resort to such measures
but I granted permission to post that sign.
If orthodoxy does not translate into orthopraxis, then we are
no better than the Pharisees and Sadducees, often under attack
by Jesus, in the Gospel. In other words, if how we worship is
not reflected in the way we live when we leave church, then
our credibility as Catholic Christians will be called into
question…and rightfully so!
Sincerely,
Fr. Glenn
The Lord has colored His word with many hues so that each
person who studies it can see in it what he loves. He has
hidden many treasures in His word so that each of us is
enriched as we meditate on it. – Prayer of St. Ephraim
(RITE of CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS)
This is an invitation to non-Catholics and also to Catholics
who have not received First Holy Communion or
Confirmation.
“Late have I loved you, O beauty ever ancient, ever new, late
have I loved you! You were with me, but I was not with
you...You called, you shouted, and you broke through my
deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my
blindness. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for
more.” These words were written by St. Augustine to describe
the joy he found in coming to the Church after thirty years of
searching outside the Catholic Church. Even in 2009, God still
calls people to the fullness of Faith. Do you know of anyone
who would like to become a Roman Catholic?
The R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the
program/process which teaches and prepares men and women
for reception into the Catholic Church.
3. A person baptized Catholic, but not raised in the faith
4. A non-Catholic married to a Catholic, or planning to be
values
2. Catechumenate-a time of nurturing; spiritual and
intellectual growth
3. Election-during Lent, the “home stretch” of preparation
and prayer; leading to receiving the Sacraments at the
Easter Vigil
4. Mystagogy-a “cooling down” time of spiritual growth;
including full participation at Sunday Mass
● How long does it take?
The sessions runs like a school year. Meetings start on
Sunday, SEPTEMBER 20, 2009 and end on JUNE 6, 2010.
● When do we meet?
The group attends the 10:30 Mass each Sunday, then is
dismissed after the homily to discuss readings and other
aspects of the Catholic faith.
● Is there a charge for this?
No, books and materials are provided at no charge.
Wisdom of the Saints
“When the soul grieves and is afraid of offending God it
does not offend Him and is very far from committing sin.
Divine grace is with you continually and you are very dear
to the Lord. Shadows and fears and convictions to the
contrary are diabolical stratagems which you should
despise in the name of Jesus. Do not listen to these
temptations. The spirit of evil is busily engaged in trying to
make you believe that your past life has been all strewn
with sins.”
