Foundation Degree Courses
Macclesfield College’s European Centre for Aerospace Training (ECAT)
has over 50 years’ experience in providing quality training in aircraft
maintenance engineering. It is approved by the UK’s Civil Aviation
Authority to deliver and assess aircraft maintenance training to EASA
IR-Part-147.
Aircraft Maintenance
Engineering (FdEng)
This Foundation Degree
covers topics such as
aerodynamics and propulsion
principles, aerospace
legislation and aircraft
maintenance & structures.
It is underpinned by
engineering mathematics,
aerospace electrical science,
aerospace mechanical science
and project & design.
The course also covers some
of the theoretical knowledge
of the EASA Part 66
Certifying Staff Maintenance
for A and B1 categories.
BSc (Hons) Aircraft
Maintenance (top-up)
This one year course is
suitable for students who
have completed an
Engineering Foundation
Degree, HND or first
degree, however a bridging
course may be available for
students from other
disciplines. It covers aircraft
materials and structural
design, aircraft electrical
and mechanical systems,
airline operations
management, finite element
analysis and a project.
One day per week is spent
at MMU Manchester.
With suitable industrial
experience this qualification
will allow you to gain
Incorporated Engineer
(IEng) status and a C licence,
allowing you to supervise
A and B1 licensed
maintenance engineers.
Electrical Engineering
(FdEng)
This Foundation Degree will
help you develop the skills
and knowledge required for
a career in the industry.
It covers digital and
analogue electronics, ECAD
and software engineering
along with power and
microprocessor systems.
It also involves an industrial
case study and an
engineering project.
Mechanical Engineering
(FdEng)
This Foundation Degree is
aimed at people working
within mechanical
engineering and covers
mechanical science,
engineering design,
computer modelling and
systems and involves
industrial case studies and
an engineering project.
