Engineering<br />
Foundation Degree Courses<br />
<strong>Macclesfield</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s European Centre for Aerospace Training (ECAT)<br />
has over 50 years’ experience in providing quality training in aircraft<br />
maintenance engineering. It is approved by the UK’s Civil Aviation<br />
Authority to deliver and assess aircraft maintenance training to EASA<br />
IR-Part-147.<br />
Aircraft Maintenance<br />
Engineering (FdEng)<br />
This Foundation Degree<br />
covers topics such as<br />
aerodynamics and propulsion<br />
principles, aerospace<br />
legislation and aircraft<br />
maintenance & structures.<br />
It is underpinned by<br />
engineering mathematics,<br />
aerospace electrical science,<br />
aerospace mechanical science<br />
and project & design.<br />
The course also covers some<br />
of the theoretical knowledge<br />
of the EASA Part 66<br />
Certifying Staff Maintenance<br />
for A and B1 categories.<br />
BSc (Hons) Aircraft<br />
Maintenance (top-up)<br />
This one year course is<br />
suitable for students who<br />
have completed an<br />
Engineering Foundation<br />
Degree, HND or first<br />
degree, however a bridging<br />
course may be available for<br />
students from other<br />
disciplines. It covers aircraft<br />
materials and structural<br />
design, aircraft electrical<br />
and mechanical systems,<br />
airline operations<br />
management, finite element<br />
analysis and a project.<br />
One day per week is spent<br />
at MMU Manchester.<br />
With suitable industrial<br />
experience this qualification<br />
will allow you to gain<br />
Incorporated Engineer<br />
(IEng) status and a C licence,<br />
allowing you to supervise<br />
A and B1 licensed<br />
maintenance engineers.<br />
Electrical Engineering<br />
(FdEng)<br />
This Foundation Degree will<br />
help you develop the skills<br />
and knowledge required for<br />
a career in the industry.<br />
It covers digital and<br />
analogue electronics, ECAD<br />
and software engineering<br />
along with power and<br />
microprocessor systems.<br />
It also involves an industrial<br />
case study and an<br />
engineering project.<br />
Mechanical Engineering<br />
(FdEng)<br />
This Foundation Degree is<br />
aimed at people working<br />
within mechanical<br />
engineering and covers<br />
mechanical science,<br />
engineering design,<br />
computer modelling and<br />
systems and involves<br />
industrial case studies and<br />
an engineering project.<br />
