Education and Formation Totus Tuus is coming! Save the date: July 21 - 26, 2013 Totus Tuus is a diocesan catechetical summer youth program whereby seminarians and college students travel throughout the summer proclaiming the Gospel through Catechetical instruction, Mass, Confession, games, fun, and more! Entering Grades 1 - 6 Entering Grades 7 - 12 Monday - Friday, July 22 - 26 Sunday - Thursday, July 21 - 25 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Cost: $25 per person Cost: $10 per person Family Rate: $50 for 3 or more children in grades 1 - 6 Adult Volunteers (with Protecting God's Children) are needed for both the day and evening sessions. News from Religious Education First Communion Pictures are in! If your child made First Communion on April 20, April 27 or May 4 the pictures have arrived and are in the RE office. You can pick them up Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. DVD’s are mailed directly to your home and should arrive mid -July. Have you ever thought about being a Catechist? We are still looking for energetic, faith-filled adults to pass on their faith to our children. This is a wonderful way to share your love of the Lord with others. We are looking for teachers for all grades K-6. If you are interested please call the Religious Education office at 815-436-4501. Have you registered for next year? We are still accepting registrations for next Fall. If you have not registered yet - PLEASE stop in and register soon! The Sunday Seminar Series - Women of the Bible Plan to attend one or all of “The Sunday Seminar Series - Women of the Bible” in the Stewardship/Unity Room from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Sunday, July 14, August 4, September 8 and September 29. July 14 - Two Hours with Esther; Esther proves you can be a damsel in distress and rescue yourself, a tale for courage in the face of adversity. August 4 - Two Hours with Judith; Judith was a widow in the style of Biblical Women, a woman of action. Judith offers a powerful message for women of our age. This seminar includes a conclusion: All women lead to Mary, Mother of Jesus. September 8 - Two Hours with Tobit; Tobit is a faithful Jew living in Exile. His story includes Sarah, his future daughter-in-law plagued by a demon and her hero Tobias, Tobit’s son. All are aided by God working through the angel Raphael. September 29 - Two Hours with Ruth and Naomi ; Ruth and Naomi forge a bond that lasts through time. This ancestress of King David is a mighty lady in her own right as is her mother-in-law Naomi! We encourage you to use the Little Rock Catholic Study bible. We will have some for you to review. There are no fees for the seminar or deadline. Education and Formation (continued) One Week (Seven days; 168 Hours; 10,800 minutes) and Counting! Next weekend, July 7 to 13, the members of our parish Young Neighbors team will leave for their service week in St. Louis. They have prepared for this service event through educational sessions, prayer, and involvement in local service programs. Wish them well, and keep them in your prayers as they count down the hours until their departure. Check our website to watch the countdown progress and for photo updates during the week at www.smip.org under the Ministries tab, Overview, under the letter T. If you’d like to participate in next summer’s service trip, please email us for details. Sign ups begin in August! Upcoming Events Sunday, June 30 – No LifeTeen - The teens are at the Youth Leadership Conference. Please pray for them. Grab a friend and come see what SMI Parish teens are up to! Confirmation Corner Registration is open and on-going for incoming Year I and Year II students! All registrations need to be completed by August 1 in order to place students into Mentor groups. Information packets and books for incoming Year I students are in the Confirmation Office, if you have not already received them. Adults who love to share the faith – we need you! Our students are at a transitional time in their lives and are beginning to develop questions about their faith. We are looking for practicing Catholics who can guide their spiritual development and have a desire to deepen their own faith life. Retreat leaders are also needed 3 times a year, if you would like to be a part of this team. An Information Packet is available outside the Confirmation Office. Mentor Training – August 29 - Year I from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Year II from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. St. Mary’s School Mentors from 8:15 - 9:00 p.m. Opening Mass for all students and families – September 9 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a meeting for Year I students and their parents after the Mass, at which time they will meet their Mentors. Fr. David’s High School group will meet with him directly after the Mass. Men’s Catechism Circle on Monday, July 15 Come join the Men’s Catechism Circle, now meeting in the St. Mary Immaculate Parish Library. We study the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” and receive a practical teaching on living out our faith. We meet the 3rd Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Our next meeting is Monday, July 15.
