Quaker World Relations Committee forwards to us as follows a draft letter of greeting to the
22nd FWCC Triennial, to be held in Dublin, Ireland, 11-19 August 2007.
Finding the Prophetic Voice for our Time
Dear Friends,
We send you loving greetings as you gather for the 22nd FWCC Triennial in Dublin,
Ireland, 11-19 August 2007, with the theme 'Finding the Prophetic Voice for our Time' .
Once again there is the challenge and the precious opportunity of experiencing God's
loving Spirit as manifested in the diversity of our world-wide family of Friends. As we
find in I Corinthians 14:1, "It is love, then, that you should strive for". Love requires a
listening spirituality. We pray that you will minister and receive the spiritual gift of
prophecy both as individuals and corporately as a committee, and that these gifts will
be taken back to your worshipping communities as seeds of inspiration.
The travel arrangements for our Britain Yearly Meeting representatives are easy in
terms of both distance and entry requirements and we feel outrage that this ease of
entry is not extended to all the representatives. FWCC and some of our yearly
meetings have faced financial and strategic costs in acquiring the visas that will
hopefully enable full participation at the gathering. This reflects yet again the
inequalities that exist in our world today.
This world is in a crisis, which we hope and pray can be helped toward healing if we
can discern, in George Fox's words, how to 'let our lives preach' and become 'patterns
and examples'. We know that you will be focussing on particular issues: Civil
Liberties and Human Rights; HIV and AIDS; The Environment; Young Friends;
Outreach; and Growth and Facing Violence in our societies. Prophetic ministry can be
challenging, confrontational and often received with hostility. Knowing that we are
being upheld by a caring community becomes essential.
We pray that the Triennial gathering will be blessed with the Love of God and that your
consultation will inspire and empower you to find the prophetic voice for our time.
We are grateful for this draft, which we approve, and ask the clerk to sign and send on our
behalf.
