M<strong>in</strong>ute 8: Matters aris<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Some of the matters from <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> 2006 that required follow up action are referred<br />

to <strong>in</strong> sections 4, 5 and 7 of the Trustees Report (of <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs) for 2006 (see<br />

Quaker work <strong>in</strong> 2006, pages 11-15 and 259). Several of the matters taken under the broad<br />

umbrella of ‘constitutional issues’ are before us this even<strong>in</strong>g, and others are elsewhere on<br />

the agenda for this <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong>.<br />

a. Progress on action <strong>in</strong> relation to the RECAST report<br />

Further to m<strong>in</strong>ute 35 of <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> 2005 (RECAST Report – consideration 4), a<br />

progress report on action regard<strong>in</strong>g decisions from the report of the Work<strong>in</strong>g Group on<br />

Representation, Communication and Accountability <strong>in</strong> our Structures (RECAST) was<br />

before <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs on 2 December 2006. M<strong>in</strong>ute 7 of that meet<strong>in</strong>g, with the<br />

progress report, may be found as an appendix on page 51 of Documents <strong>in</strong> advance.<br />

b. Reviews of Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Trustees and <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

Further to m<strong>in</strong>ute 20 of <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> 2006 (Constitutional issues – Trustees for<br />

Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> – cont<strong>in</strong>ued), proposals for a future review of both the function<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Trustees and <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> its <strong>new</strong> role will be<br />

brought to a future <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong>, by <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Agenda Committee.<br />

c. Govern<strong>in</strong>g Document for Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong><br />

Further to m<strong>in</strong>ute 28 of <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong> 2006 (Constitutional issues – charitable<br />

status), Quaker Stewardship Committee has checked the text of the Govern<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Document for Brita<strong>in</strong> <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> as requested. <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs was given<br />

authority to approve the f<strong>in</strong>al document on behalf of <strong>Yearly</strong> <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> and did so by m<strong>in</strong>ute<br />

4 of its meet<strong>in</strong>g held 2 December 2006. A draft of the text is pr<strong>in</strong>ted on pages 37 - 48 of<br />

the church government Supplement to Documents <strong>in</strong> advance.<br />

We endorse <strong>Meet<strong>in</strong>g</strong> for Suffer<strong>in</strong>gs' decision, and agree that the amended text should be<br />

used as the basis for charitable registration when this is done.<br />
