1. Overall Purpose<br />

<strong>Business</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong><br />

<strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong><br />

<strong>Pay</strong> <strong>structure</strong>: £15,000 pa<br />

+ enhancement for exceptional performance<br />

i. To provide strategic leadership for the British Society of Dental<br />

Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT). Manage its day to day<br />

development activities and deliver on the strategic business<br />

targets for the Society. To drive forward the aims of BSDHT<br />

and enhance its public and professional profile. To pro- actively<br />

seek to expand the activities of the Society through maintaining<br />

a very close working relationship with other organisations and<br />

commercial partners as defined by the Executive Team.<br />

2. Reporting Structure<br />

i. The BSDHT <strong>Business</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> is directly<br />

responsible to the Executive Team with normal accountability to<br />

the President.<br />

ii. The post holder will be required to attend all Executive Team<br />

and full Council meetings and provide reports as required.<br />

3. General Terms and Conditions<br />

i. This post is home based for which a home office allowance will<br />

be payable to cover communication and information technology<br />

costs.<br />

ii. The post is for eighteen and a half hours per week paid on a self<br />

employed basis at a rate approved by the Council of BSDHT.<br />

Some flexibility is expected as to what constitutes the working<br />

week to meet the operational requirements of the Society.<br />

iii. In addition the BSDHT <strong>Business</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong> will be<br />

required to attend meetings of various kinds at a wide variety of<br />

locations for which BSDHT will meet all reasonable travel and<br />

subsistence costs in line with the Society’s guidelines.


4. Core Responsibilities<br />

i. To uphold and update the constitution of the Society and its official<br />

sub committees.<br />

ii. To produce and maintain a Strategic Plan and Annual <strong>Business</strong> Plan<br />

for the Society in association with the BSDHT Executive Team.<br />

iii. To produce an annual budget and deliver financial performance to<br />

this.<br />

iv. Monitor and seek to expand membership growth.<br />

v. To facilitate the meetings of the Council and the Executive Team of<br />

the Councils and other such meetings as deemed necessary.<br />

vi. Maintain close liaison with the Information Services and<br />

Membership Services co-ordinators over the day-to-day<br />

administration and organisation of the Society.<br />

vii.To maintain a petty cash account for all expenses related to the role<br />

of the <strong>Business</strong> <strong>Development</strong> <strong>Manager</strong>.<br />

viii. To act as the focal point for BSDHT to maintain close working<br />

relationships with other similar organisation and commercial<br />

partners.<br />

ix. To maintain and source funding and sponsorship opportunities for<br />

BSDHT in line with the business plan.<br />

x. To negotiate and organise the venue for the annual general assembly<br />

of members, dinner and scientific meeting, and any extra ordinary<br />

meetings that are deemed necessary to hold. In addition organise<br />

the registration of such meetings and liaise with the venue<br />

authorities.<br />

xi. To carry out all other duties that the Executive Team of the Council<br />

may from time to time deem necessary.
