14087 Warlord Familiars II $5.49 Werner Klocke<br />
This batch of little monsters gets you five new friends to go on adventures with your mages. The<br />
most natural animal looking is a small eight legged lizard creature with its tongue sticking out. It<br />
could be used as a baby basilisk if you wanted. A knobby wooden creature is here and it reminds<br />
me of a Twig Blight in D&D. I had some trouble figuring out what this next guy was but it looks<br />
like some kind of turtle creature that is carrying a sword, probably a dagger for his master, and a<br />
bunch of scrolls tied to his back. Ei<strong>the</strong>r that or he has <strong>the</strong> thickest dreadlocks that I’ ve ever seen.<br />
The last two are <strong>the</strong> easiest to place your finger on. They are both holding books for <strong>the</strong>ir master.<br />
One is a small fairy like creature with little wings and a tail and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r is her evil counterpart, a<br />
small imp or maybe even a tiny demon if you like complete with curved horns, bit floppy ears and<br />
a pot-belly. At about a buck each <strong>the</strong>se will make cool additions to your mages, ei<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong>ir own<br />
bases or added to <strong>the</strong>ir master’s to spruce <strong>the</strong>m up a bit.<br />
7082 Mk IV Revenant $13.99 Ron DuBray<br />
The Mark IV Revenant is <strong>the</strong> first super-heavy battlefield superiority mech <strong>from</strong> Mark IV<br />
industries. The Revenant is armed with two V/32 Gauss Cannons (range 36, +7 versus hard targets<br />
and +2 versus soft targets) and two Hf4 Direct Fire Missile Packs (range 36, +4 versus hard targets<br />
and +1 versus soft targets). With seven damage tracks, this is definitely a mech killer, but at 510<br />
points, it is a pricey one.<br />
GH Vindicator<br />
MK IV Revenant<br />
The model itself has six pieces in addition to <strong>the</strong> hexagonal base. The model is a standard CAV<br />
structure with its torso, legs, and gun arms separate pieces. However, unlike most CAV, <strong>the</strong> missile<br />
packs are not molded into <strong>the</strong> gun arms, but are <strong>the</strong>ir own pieces. This will make changing <strong>the</strong><br />
missile packs much easier. The only flaw I encountered in this month's set of models was with <strong>the</strong><br />
missile packs on <strong>the</strong> Revenant. They were sloped as if <strong>the</strong> two sides of <strong>the</strong> mold did not align<br />
properly. This is not noticeable on <strong>the</strong> table top, but does give <strong>the</strong> model an off-kilter look when<br />
held close.<br />
7081 Vindicator (2) $9.99 Neil Nowatzki<br />
The second CAV blister pack has 2 GH Vindicator armored personnel carriers. The Vindicator<br />
was built in answer to KDM's Fenri - an APC that could do more than just ferry troops to <strong>the</strong><br />
battlefield. The Vindicator is equipped with two Riddle AI-12 Gatteling Gauss Cannons (range 36,<br />
+1 versus hard targets, +6 versus soft targets). These are integrated into <strong>the</strong> structure and cannot be<br />
altered except to remove <strong>the</strong>m. The addition of <strong>the</strong> GGC's mean that <strong>the</strong> Vindicator has room for<br />
only one stand of infantry. At 120 points each, <strong>the</strong>se CAV versions of <strong>the</strong> reliable Huey will be<br />
quite popular with <strong>the</strong> mercenary guilds. The models <strong>the</strong>mselves are include two pieces, <strong>the</strong> body<br />
and <strong>the</strong> wings, in addition to <strong>the</strong> hexagonal base and flying stand. The detail is excellent and <strong>the</strong><br />
assembly quite easy. The wings are a single piece that fits on top of <strong>the</strong> fuselage and is secured by<br />
a small tab. Both of <strong>the</strong>se models are an excellent addition to <strong>the</strong> CAV line.<br />
10020 Marthrangul, Great Dragon $75.00 Jim Johnson<br />
Marthrangul is <strong>the</strong> newest multi-piece dragon boxed set <strong>from</strong> Reaper miniatures. It comes in just nine pieces (body, upper head, two wings, one foot, three legs and<br />
tail) and while <strong>the</strong> pieces fit toge<strong>the</strong>r very well I would recommend using pins for stability and strength, especially <strong>the</strong> wings and tail. You will also need a small<br />
amount of putty to fill in some small gaps here and <strong>the</strong>re but for a model as large as this bad boy is <strong>the</strong> gaps are surprisingly few and are relatively small. Even with<br />
<strong>the</strong> small amount of modeling work that you’ll need/want to do this could easily be <strong>the</strong> first Reaper dragon that you pick up because all of <strong>the</strong> pieces went toge<strong>the</strong>r so<br />
easily. I would recommend mounting <strong>the</strong> whole dragon on a blank CD (AOL CD’s work great for this too) and you’ll want to use just a bit of putty or clay to build<br />
up under one or two of <strong>the</strong> feet that didn’t sit<br />
perfectly flat for me. You could bend <strong>the</strong> legs a bit if<br />
you wanted to get a perfectly flat footing but I think<br />
this would make a gap where <strong>the</strong> leg meets <strong>the</strong> body<br />
so you’ re probably using some putty ei<strong>the</strong>r way.<br />
Let’s start at <strong>the</strong> head of <strong>the</strong> model and model and<br />
move our way back. The bottom half of <strong>the</strong> jaw is<br />
attached to <strong>the</strong> rest of <strong>the</strong> length of <strong>the</strong> body, minus<br />
<strong>the</strong> tail. When <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> head is put on <strong>the</strong><br />
dragon takes on a very flat reptilian look, which suits<br />
it perfectly. It reminds me a lot of <strong>the</strong> dragon in<br />
Dragonslayer. From snout to tail Marthrangul<br />
measures in at just over 9.75” in length and each<br />
wing is about 6” x4” at <strong>the</strong> widest points. The picture<br />
to <strong>the</strong> right illustrates just how big this model is when<br />
compared to two o<strong>the</strong>r Reaper figures.<br />
The detail on <strong>the</strong> spines and scales is outstanding on<br />
this model and it’s easy to see that a lot of time was<br />
taken to make <strong>the</strong>m look right. Each and every piece<br />
needed some cleaning but it’s something I expected<br />
with a model of this size and <strong>the</strong> need for some putty<br />
and pins is also something that you should expect<br />
when assembling this big of a model that’s entirely<br />
metal. It will absolutely see <strong>the</strong> game table in my<br />
Warlord army and while it’s pricey if you have <strong>the</strong><br />
need for a very large dragon it’s justifiable,<br />
especially over a plastic variant.<br />
