For New Zealand log-truck operator Steve Murphy,<br />

Like practically all New Zealand forestry transport<br />
operators, Steve Murphy’s <strong>com</strong>pany SML uses its<br />
cranes to not only to load up logs but to also lift fullsize<br />
three-axle trailers onto the bed of their trucks<br />
when empty.<br />
Rarely heard of elsewhere in the world, the practice<br />
allows operators access to difficult sites easier. It also<br />
saves wear on the trailers and significant amounts of<br />
money in road-use charges.<br />
In New Zealand, trucks and trailers have a mileage<br />
meter attached to the wheels and operators must pay<br />
for every kilometre the vehicle travels, so carrying the<br />
trailer instead of towing it makes a difference.<br />
