Osnovno šolo je obiskoval v Mariboru, gimnazijo pa med IIsvetovno vojno v Ljubljani in<br />

v Metliki ter 1950 maturiral na I gimnaziji v Mariboru Istega leta se je vpisal na metalurški<br />

odsek rudarsko metalurške fakultete v Ljubljani, kjer je 1957 diplomiral Leta 1957 mu je<br />

rektor Univerze v Ljubljani podelil študentsko Prešernovo nagrado za obdelavo teme:<br />

Izkorišèanje ostankov destilacije cinka v Cinkarni Celje Med študijem je bil demonstrator<br />

na katedri za kovinarstvo<br />

Po odsluženem vojaškem roku se je septembra 1958 zaposlil kot raziskovalec - pomoènik<br />

na Metalurške inštitutu v Ljubljani Leta 1959 je bil izvoljen za asistenta za fizikalno kemijo<br />

metalurških procesov V šolskem letu1963/64 mu je UNESCO dodelil štipendijo za študij<br />

proizvodnje redkih in èistih kovin v tedanji Zahodni Nemèiji, kjer je študiral na Bergakademie<br />

Clausthal Bil je dolgoletni honorarni sodelavec Metalurškega inštituta v Ljubljani Leta1971<br />

konèal magistrski študij, 1974 pa uspešno zagovarjal doktorsko disertacijo z naslovom<br />

“Komparativna termodinamièna analiza kovinskega sistema kadmij - indij” Leta 1977 je<br />

bil izvoljen za docenta, 1982 za izrednega, 1988 pa za rednega profesorja za podroèje teorije<br />

metalurških procesov S štipendijami vlad ZR Nemèije (DAAD), Švedske in Finske je<br />

izpopolnjeval svoje znanje v teh državah Bil je èlan in funkcionar raznih univerzitetnih<br />

komisij, èlan upravnega odbora oddelka za montanistiko, predstojnik odseka za metalurgijo,<br />

predstojnik katedre za ekstraktivno metalurgijo in predsednik izpitne komisije odseka za<br />

metalurgijo Vrsto let je bil vodja študija metalurgije ob delu, ki je potekal v Ljubljani, na<br />

Ravnah, v Štorah in v Mariboru Bil je mentor magisterskih in doktorskih del<br />

Njegovo raziskovalno delo zajema predvsem podroèja termodinamike in kinetike metalurških<br />

procesov, posebno študij faznih ravnotežij in faznih diagramov, predvsem z uporabo<br />

diferenèno termiène analize, kalorimetriènih in elektrokemijskih metod, študij strukture in<br />

fizikalnih lastnosti metalurških žlinder, predvsem viskoznosti in elektriène prevodnosti oz<br />

upornosti (rezultati njegovih raziskav teh žlinder so objavljeni v Slag Atlas (2 nd Edition), ki<br />

ga je izdala Verlag Stahleisen iz ZRN), raziskavo posebnih postopkov rafinacije jekla (EPŽ),<br />

njihovim raèunalniškim modeliranjem in modeliranjem homogenih in heterogenih<br />

He visited and finished elementary school in Maribor and during the World War II he visited<br />

high school in Ljubljana and Metlika and has graduated from high school in Maribor when<br />

the war was over in 1950 In the same year he enrolled to the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy<br />

at the University of Ljubljana where he studied metallurgy<br />

He graduated in 1957 and for his paper on the subject of exploitation of zinc distillation<br />

leftovers in the Cinkarna Celje, he was a recipient of the University students Prešeren award<br />

in the same year<br />

After Military service, he started his professional work as a research assistant at the Metallurgical<br />

Institute of Ljubljana in September of 1958 In the year 1959 he became elected<br />

assistant for the field of physical chemistry of metallurgical processes In the years 1963-64<br />

he obtained the UNESCO scholarship for his studies of rare and pure metals in the former<br />

Federal Republic of Germany where he studied at the Clausthal Bergakademie He remained<br />

for long time a part-time co-worker with the Metallurgical Institute in Ljubljana<br />

In 1971 he finished his Masters Degree and in 1974 he successfully defended his PhD<br />

thesis on comparative thermodynamic analysis of the cadmium-indium metals system In<br />

the year 1977 he was elected as a reader for the field of the theory of metallurgical processes,<br />

he became associate professor in 1982, and full professor for the field of the theory<br />

of metallurgical processes in 1988 As a recipient of several scholarships from various<br />

governments he was able to gain new knowledge at institutions in the Federal Republic of<br />

Germany, Sweden and Finland<br />

He was a member and official in various university committees, a member of the Managing<br />

Board of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy, Head of the chair of Extractive Metallurgy<br />

and a chairman of the examination committee at the Department of Metallurgy at the<br />

University of Ljubljana For many years, he was a Head of the Section for metallurgical<br />

studies outside the regular curricula that took part in Ljubljana, Štore, Ravne, and Maribor<br />

He was also supervisor of numerous Masters and PhD theses<br />

His research work consists mainly of thermodynamic and kinetic studies of metallurgical<br />

processes, especially studies of phase equilibria and phase diagrams applying methods of<br />

differential thermal analysis, and calorimetric and electrochemical methods His work also<br />

consists of the structure and physical studies of metallurgical slag properties, eg viscosity<br />

and electrical conductivity (results of his research works were published in the Slag Atlas,<br />

2nd Edition, published by Stahleisen Verlag, Germany), research works dealing with special<br />

procedures for rerfining steel (ESR process), their computer modelling, and modelling<br />

of homogenous and heterogeneous equilibria of different compositions of gas mixtures An<br />

important part of his work was cooperation with the metallurgical industry, where he was<br />

head of research teams of numerous research projects for industry<br />

He participated in numerous conferences, symposia and meetings , at home and abroad, eg<br />

in Ljubljana, Portorož, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sisak, Zenica, Bor, and Nikšiè in the former Yugoslavia,<br />

in Austria, Federal Republic of Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Sweden, Finland,<br />
