The Carpet
The earpet of leaves goes on forever,
Beneath the trees, beside the river;
I stand, I wonder: how far do ,they go,
As fa,r as the land of the sparkling snow?
Lmves sWlilShand rustle like long gras,s;
They lie beneath us when we pass.
They were beautiful, now turned brown,
Falling ever f'a1ling to the ground.
They are gone now, c'hiUed by the frost.
Was there a purpose for them to be lost?
They faM :slowly and ligfutly down Eke
snow.
Do leav€1S leave a message that I s!hould
know?
They are remembered on the trees,
But as they fall with a passing breeze,
They lie forgotten on the ground
In peace, to give us a carpet of brown.
Christmas
Christmas! 0, what a wonderful time of
ifue year!
When everyone's !happy and filled with
good cheer.
This i,s the season that many f,avour the
most,
When they can sing and dance and toast.
The weather ,i,s frosty 'and crisp and cold,
Just as it was in times of oId :
The snow like sitars ;and diamonds
glirstens.
Some people sing and others will listen.
'rhe celebrations Ihave changed a lot,
But the reason for Christmastide has not.
We are celebrating God's gift to men
Witlh pea,ce and good-will on earth to
them.
Ruth Bothern, llA,
Jarvis
I s,tand alone like a shepherd,
Guiding the sheep to pasture;
Not many desire me,
Yet, I decide their future.
In my presence all ~are equal,
Riohand poor mingle;
With goals high 'and success unreached,
They battle long for victory.
Armies destroy land devastate,
Conquering foreign 1ands land oontinents;
I n€led no arms or force
To conquer minds of young and old.
Men come to earth without a purpose,
Looking up to me for guidance;
They wander in the c:wwd, lost,
Until I set their course straight.
I 'am desired by the old
And rebuked by the young.
lam the road to knowledge.
I am J'arvis.
