In 2010/11, Queensland Rail carried out
significant work to ensure every area
of the organisation maintains a safe
environment for employees and customers.
Reduction in the LTIFR
There was a significant improvement in the
LTIFR across the business in the past 12
months. The rate decreased by 33% from
10.30% in June 2010. Many areas reported
no Lost Time Injuries (LTI) for the year.
Improvements to level
crossing safety
There has been good progress on level
crossing safety with the completion of
the federally funded Boom Gates for Rail
Crossings Program, which involved the
upgrade of 66 level crossings across the state.
Queensland Rail also continued its
community education aimed at reducing
level crossing incidents, presenting to
nearly 125,000 children in 405 schools,
and launching the ‘What Would You
Miss?’ campaign to raise community
awareness of safety at level crossings.
