Responsibilities:<br />
(a) In charge <strong>of</strong> the Research Support and Publications Division <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Commission</strong>; the responsibilities<br />
include the administration <strong>of</strong> (i) the award and implementation <strong>of</strong> research projects to faculties in<br />
various universities <strong>of</strong> the country, (ii) publication <strong>of</strong> the annual report <strong>of</strong> the activities <strong>of</strong> all the<br />
universities <strong>of</strong> the country; (iii) the UGC Awards to faculties <strong>of</strong> universities for best publications <strong>of</strong><br />
research articles and books, (iv) international collaboration with various agencies regarding training<br />
<strong>of</strong> young faculties and research; (v) award <strong>of</strong> M.Phil. and Ph.D. Fellowships to teachers <strong>of</strong> public<br />
higher education institutes; (vi) equivalence <strong>of</strong> degrees earned abroad with degrees awarded in<br />
<strong>Bangladesh</strong> (vii) Quality Assurance and Self-assessment in Higher Education in <strong>Bangladesh</strong><br />
(b) In charge <strong>of</strong> the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project being implemented by the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>Grants</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>. This is a project <strong>of</strong> the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education, Government <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Bangladesh</strong>, funded with an IDA credit <strong>of</strong> USD 81 million. The main components <strong>of</strong> the project are<br />
(i) Academic Innovation Fund under which faculties in universities are awarded sub-projects to<br />
improve teaching-learning and research capabilities; and (ii) the establishment <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bangladesh</strong><br />
Research and Education Network (BdREN), to provide dedicated high-speed internet connectivity to<br />
all universities.<br />
Besides my <strong>of</strong>ficial responsibilities mentioned above, I am also actively engaged in research collaboration<br />
with my former colleagues in the Physical Chemistry section <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Chemistry, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Dhaka.<br />
