A D A DAY AT THE RACES The House Committee is offering a trip to Gulfstream Park on Sunday March 24. Gulfstream Park has thoroughbred horse racing, slot machines, poker, numerous restaurants and shops. The approximate cost is $35.00 for transportation and a premium reserved seat for our group. We will leave at 10:00 am and will be back at 9:00 pm. There is also track view dining at the Ten Palms restaurant that has a buffet. If you want to upgrade to the Ten Palms, call them directly at 954-455-6760 to make your own reservation. To reserve your transportation and seats, email Charlie White (charleeswhite@comcast.net) by March 7. There can be no exceptions to this deadline. Let me know if you have one or two coming. Payment will be collected for the trip through your Piper's account. Good Luck! There are still plenty of events to play in if you have not had a chance to join us. The Piper’s Landing Women’s Golf Association held its annual “Holiday Sharing” drive, raising $2,605 to help House of Hope families this Christmas. PLWGA chairman Michelle Maguire and tournament chairwoman Lorraine Cardarelli set March up a festive 1 & 2 Thanksgiving tree in the Piper’s Landing clubhouse that was decorated with ornament Men's tags Club made Champion by the association’s secretary, Linda Harlan. Piper’s Landing residents could take a tag off the tree, fill it out and give it to the club’s cashier to provide a donation to House of Hope. March 4 & 5 Ladies' 18 In addition to this outpouring of holiday spirit, residents at Piper’s Landing Yacht & Country Member/Member Club support House of Hope year-round in many ways: March 6 & 9 • Members are encouraged through the community’s newsletter and TV channel to give White to House Hats of Hope. Boxes are set up in the locker rooms to collect donations of food – a method Member/Member that delivered more than 500 pounds of food this year. March 9 • Piper’s Landing resident Elaine Matts is a House of Hope board member, food pantry Ladies' volunteer, Member/Guest and chairwoman for the “Hearts for Hope” Fashion Show, Luncheon and Auction. This Doubles fund-raising Invitational event will be held 11:30 a.m., Feb. 11, 2011 at Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart. March 11 • For the second consecutive year, Piper’s Landing will be the host of House of Hope’s Annual Golf Mixed Member/Member Tournament of Hope, on April 29, 2011. March 14, 15 & 16 House of Hope is a nonprofit agency that provides food, clothing, case management and emergency financial assistance to Martin County people in need. The agency is Martin County’s largest Men's provider Invitational of food to the hungry, and serves as a safety net for hundreds of families, working people and senior March citizens 18 who are struggling through hard times. Golf Tournament ### Congratulations to Morry and Suki Blutstein for winning the 2013 Mixed Member Guest. The weather was perfect for the event and the golf was even better. The ladies’ tee box on #14 will be moved back during regular play to help the tee box heal. If we have a major event or championship, then the tee box will be on the forward tee. We apologize for the inconvenience. When playing on the course, please leave it in the condition that you found it. Rake bunkers, fix ball marks and fill divots. This will ensure the course will be in the best playing condition. Golf Tip: When aligning for a golf shot, focus on your shoulders and hips being in line with the target. This will ensure that you are properly aligned for your shot. One Day Member/Guest In general the trees around the golf course are doing well. The continual rains have been hard on our trees, shrubs and grass. We have treated the bougainvilleas with fertilizer and fungicides. March 19 Men's Tennis Match Michelle Maguire delivers the check to House of Hope executive director Patrick One Slattery Day in Member/Guest the festive setting of the agency’s resale store in Stuart. Soon we will be applying root drenching insecticides and preventative white fly applications to many of the trees in an attempt to combat the effects of the excessive rain. The arborist was specifically asked to check the large oak on hole March 20 & 23 10 and the Tabebuia on hole 9. The oak tree on hole 10 is doing White Hats Championship well. The tree on hole 9 has a split which has been monitored. March 20 & 27 Unfortunately the split has recently enlarged past the acceptable Par Tee Niners Club threshold.
