SS230 Using ICT to Support Data-Handling at Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistants working with Key Stage 2
Pupils
Description:
Learning how to handle data is a vital skill, with
applications across the curriculum, but with
particular importance within mathematics and
science.
Needless to say, it is a required element of the
National Curriculum.
ICT plays an important role in helping pupils
to work with data quickly and easily, allowing
them to spend time on the important aspects
of interpreting the data and coming to their
own conclusions, prior to testing them out.
There are a range of data-handling programs
available for use at Key Stage 2, but the
one that stands out for us is the amazing
‘2Investigate’ (check it out at www.2simple.
com), and it is this package that the course will
focus on.
Objectives:
You will:
• learn what a database is
• discover how easy and exciting
‘2Investigate’ makes the whole process
• interrogate a previously prepared database
• animate data into Venn Diagrams and
graphs
• add your own data and share with others
• consider applications across the
This course will show you what resources you need,
where to get them and how to use them across the
No musical knowledge or expertise required!
Lunch will be provided.
Booking, Costs, Times and Venue
How do I book on a course?
Photocopy the booking form opposite, complete and then fax to 020 8461 6286.
Alternatively, e-mail your request to course.bookings@bromley.gov.uk – an electronic version of the form is downloadable
from the ‘Training 2009-10’ area of our website at las.bromley.lgfl.net.
You should note the closing date for the course – bookings will close approximately two weeks before the course is due to
run. Only in exceptional circumstances will you be able to book a place after the closing date. All bookings must be secured
through the booking form or by e-mail. Please be aware that places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and certain
courses may only accept limited numbers.
How will I know if my place is confirmed?
Following booking, delegates will be sent a letter detailing the arrangements for their course. This letter should be brought
to the start of the session as confirmation of their place. It may be necessary to refuse a place to any delegate who arrives
without pre-booking. If you have not received confirmation by one week before the course, please contact one of our
course administrators on 020 8462 8911.
It is essential that the EDC is informed of your intention to attend any course, including those offered free of charge.
Where this does not happen, practical difficulties can arise which include:
• you not receiving notification of any change of date, time or venue;
• insufficient catering or training resources being available;
• the training room not accommodating the number of delegates.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are unable to attend a course on which you have booked a place, cancellation must be in
writing, in the form of a fax, e-mail or letter. In the event that a delegate fails to arrive for a course where a place has
been booked without giving prior notice of cancellation, the EDC reserves the right to make a charge to schools to
cover the cost of administration and any catering involved. This applies even where a course is offered at no charge.
What happens if a course is cancelled or postponed?
One of the reasons for cancellation is low numbers, so please help us by booking well in advance.
If we have to cancel or postpone a course for any reason, you will be notified in writing as soon as possible.
If it is within 2 days of the course, the EDC will endeavour to contact you or your school office by phone or e-mail.
How much will it cost?
The cost of a course to Bromley schools is shown under the individual course details.
Most support staff courses are offered free or at a reduced cost to those in the Bromley Schools’ Entitlement Package
(for September 2009 to July 2010 the charge for this is £300 per full-time equivalent member of teaching staff, including the
Head Teacher).
Independent and out-of-borough schools will be charged according to the following rates:
per full day - £150; per half-day - £80; per twilight - £65.
When and where are the courses held?
Course times vary to accommodate the needs of participants or the nature of the course.
The majority of courses are held at the Bromley Education Development Centre (EDC), the location of which is shown on the
back cover of this brochure, as well as on our website (www.las.bromley.lgfl.net).
Participants should always check individual course details for specific times and location.
