1.2 Purpose<br />

This document contains the system version description for the operation and management of<br />

<strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong>.<br />

1.3 Scope<br />

This system version description defines the applicable <strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong> system in terms of software<br />

and hardware. It covers the software version description of the individual configuration items<br />

of the <strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong> systems. This document does not cover the description of components<br />

required for the generation of so-called <strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong> climate datasets.<br />

1.4 Document Overview<br />

This document is structured in the following sections:<br />

Section 1 contains an introduction to the document, providing for scope, purpose and<br />

documentation references<br />

Section 2 presents the details about the released products and the software used in the<br />

generation of the products. The description of all the implemented changes and the<br />

enumeration of known and possible problems is foreseen.<br />

2 <strong>Version</strong> <strong>Description</strong>s<br />

2.1 <strong>Version</strong>ing Approach and Plan<br />

At the beginning of the CDOP the versioning approach has been changed compared to the<br />

approach used in the Initial Operations Phase (IOP). During the IOP the main version<br />

numbers were given according to the different development steps (AVHRR products,<br />

addition of MSG/Seviri products, area extension, etc.). Additionally, with an update of<br />

software components and, therefore, an introduction of a new product version, the version<br />

number of all products has been changed even for those products not being affected by the<br />

implemented change [RD 1]. With the beginning of the Continuous Development and<br />

Operations phase (CDOP) the versioning approach for the <strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong> products has been<br />

changed. All changes implemented after 01 May 2008 follow a product based versioning<br />

approach, i.e., only the product version number of those products being affected by the<br />

implemented changes is changed. The 3-digit version number will be changed in the second<br />

digit in case the software used in the generation of the product will be changed. The one-digit<br />

will be changed if the input data used in the generation of the product will be changed. Thus,<br />

the change in the software of one product might result in a change in version number of a<br />

second product if the first product is required as input data. The version number of all other<br />

products not being directly or indirectly affected by the introduced change will remain the<br />

same. This document gives an overview of the currently operational products. The former<br />

versions of the <strong>CM</strong>-<strong>SAF</strong> products are described in [RD 1]. The new versioning approach is<br />

not applied backwards to the products processed before 01 May 2008.<br />

The following table (Table 1) provides an overview about the mapping of the individual<br />

components to a certain Container (SW package). The details of the components are<br />

described in the <strong>System</strong> Design Document (SDD, [RD 2]).<br />
