JON KORFAS<br />

Outstand<strong>in</strong>g Athlete<br />

Jon Korfas led <strong>the</strong> San Marcos Royals basketball team to Channel League<br />

Championships <strong>in</strong> each year from 1979 to 1981. In his last two years, <strong>the</strong> "runn<strong>in</strong>" Royals<br />

posted a comb<strong>in</strong>ed record <strong>of</strong> 50-2 appear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> CIF F<strong>in</strong>als <strong>in</strong> 1981. Jon earned First­<br />

Team All Channel League honors <strong>in</strong> 1979, 1980 and 1981 and was named MVP <strong>in</strong> both<br />

1980 and 1981. Jon was voted 1st Team All-CIF <strong>in</strong> 1981 and 2nd Team All-CIF <strong>in</strong> 1979<br />

and 1980.<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g an impressive high school career, Jon attended USC dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 1981-1982<br />

season and helped <strong>the</strong> team qualify for NCAA Tournament. In 1982, Jon transferred to<br />

Pepperd<strong>in</strong>e where for <strong>the</strong> next four years, he played for Jim Harrick. Under Harrick, <strong>the</strong><br />

Waves won two West Coast Athletic Conference Championships and played <strong>in</strong> two NCAA<br />

Tournaments. Jon earned Honorable Mention WCAC <strong>in</strong> 1985.<br />

After college, Jon played pr<strong>of</strong>essionally <strong>in</strong> Greece for nearly fifteen years. His team<br />

won <strong>the</strong> Greek Championship <strong>in</strong> 1992 and European Championships twice <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> midn<strong>in</strong>eties.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> conclusion <strong>of</strong> his play<strong>in</strong>g career, Jon coached <strong>in</strong> Greece from 2000-2002.<br />

Jon is currently <strong>the</strong> Head Coach <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> boys' basketball team at Santa Ynez High<br />

School where his teams qualified for CIF play<strong>of</strong>fs <strong>in</strong> two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> past three years. The<br />

journey to <strong>the</strong> CIF play<strong>of</strong>fs was flooded with excit<strong>in</strong>g games <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a 61-60 overtime<br />

victory over Cabrillo early <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> season.<br />
