Sukhumvit<br />
<br />
This is the place to stay if you enjoy being in<br />
the thick of things, so to speak. An historic<br />
thoroughfare that has been around for more<br />
than a century, Sukhumvit Road is fully stocked on<br />
all fronts. Living here means you’ll be surrounded<br />
by major of ces buildings, shopping complexes,<br />
a sea of gourmet restaurants, quaint eateries,<br />
coffee houses, street vendors, hotels, pubs, sports<br />
bars, night clubs, elevated and subterranean train<br />
lines, spas, sports clubs, international schools,<br />
hospitals, supermarkets, and a whole lot more.<br />
Many of the sois on Sukhumvit Road have<br />
their own distinctive personality. Soi 3 is known for<br />
its many Middle Eastern restaurants, businesses,<br />
and a pocket called Little Arabia. Soi 11 is a<br />
happening street lined with funky eateries and<br />
pubs, three major night clubs and an international<br />
supermarket chain. Soi 21 (Asok/Ratchadapisek)<br />
has a world-class convention centre in the Queen<br />
Sirikit National Convention Center and a popular<br />
tness chain. Sois 24 and 33 are home to a<br />
sizeable Japanese expatriate community who<br />
enjoy the many Japanese restaurants on offer and<br />
UFM Fuji Super, packed with imported products<br />
from Japan. Benjasiri Park and The Emporium<br />
shopping centre are also here. Sois 55 (Thong Lo)<br />
and 63 (Ekkamai) are at the heart of <strong>Bangkok</strong>’s<br />
trendiest and most eclectic neighbourhood. It’s<br />
the place to see and be seen. Meanwhile, Phra<br />
Khanong, On Nut and Bang Na have all started to<br />
become huge residential areas for expats.<br />

Central Lumphini<br />
<br />
Living near Lumphini Park means you will<br />
have great views of and access to the<br />
capital’s oldest and most iconic swath<br />
of greenery. In addition to trees, grass and<br />
lakes, the park contains a school, library, gym,<br />
indoor and outdoor basketball courts, outdoor<br />
swimming pool, brand new sports complex,<br />
free aerobics classes, gardens, boats for hire,<br />
outdoor concerts, senior citizens centre, jogging<br />
track, kids centre, and much more.<br />
Ratchadamri is a beautiful road to live on<br />
or near and, for the most part, is free of vendors.<br />
Along this thoroughfare reside the Royal<br />
<strong>Bangkok</strong> Sports Club (with golf course, horse<br />
track and Falabella night club), Chulalongkorn<br />
Hospital, The St. Regis <strong>Bangkok</strong>, AUA language<br />
school and library, The Peninsula Plaza, Grand<br />
Hyatt Erawan hotel, and CentralWorld shopping<br />
centre.<br />
Sarasin Road has several quaint pubs<br />
facing Lumphini Park, most notably, Brown<br />
Sugar jazz bar. Lang Suan Road, which is<br />
loaded with upscale residences and of ces, is<br />
capped by the park on one end and the revered<br />
Mater Dei high school on the other. Wireless<br />
Road is a spectacular tree-lined boulevard<br />
where you will find All Seasons Place, The<br />
Oriental Residence, and the U.S. Embassy and<br />
ambassador’s residence. Ploen Chit Road has<br />
a new eco-friendly of ce building, several new<br />
hotels, Central Chidlom shopping centre, and the<br />
Foreign Correspondence Club of Thailand.<br />
There are two other major shopping/<br />
residential/office developments just getting<br />
underway in this area which will dramatically<br />
change the face of the neighbourhood. One is<br />
at the site of the now defunct Suan Lum Night<br />
Bazaar on Wireless Road, opposite Lumphini<br />
Park. The other is a plot of land on Ploen Chit<br />
Road that used to be part of the British Embassy.<br />

Sathon-Si Lom<br />
<br />
Despite being a thriving business centre and<br />
home to many impressive ofce buildings,<br />
ve-star hotels and nancial institutions,<br />
this area is also sprinkled with many quiet sois and<br />
private estates. And when the sun goes down, it<br />
becomes an entertainment district. Quite simply,<br />
there is always something going on here – days,<br />
nights and weekends.<br />
Soi Sala Daeng is particularly charming<br />
due in large part to the interplay between the<br />
established local community and the burgeoning<br />
expatriate one. Here you can nally catch the<br />
breath you lost on Si Lom or Sathon amid wine<br />
bars, Italian bistros and mini spas. Living here<br />
also means you’ll be within walking distance<br />
of Patpong, a 100-year old church, a convent,<br />
several Irish pubs, three hospitals, a major tness<br />
centre, and Lumphini Park. It’s hard to believe<br />
this area was once nothing but rice elds and<br />

Undoubtedly, the most well known pocket<br />
of this locale is the hip, artsy, and mostly<br />
residential Soi Ari (a.k.a.“Millionaire’s<br />
Lane”). One of the quietest and most serene<br />
residential districts in the entire capital, Ari<br />
has long been known for its preponderance of<br />
opulent homes. In recent years, it has boomed<br />
with an in ux of yuppie, upscale Thais, af uent<br />
expats, high-end residences, and quirky hotels,<br />
restaurants and boutiques.<br />
There are major shopping areas office<br />
buildings in the vicinity, such as Major Ratchayothin,<br />
the newly renovated Central Lardprao, Chatuchak<br />
Weekend Market, SCB Park, Sun Towers, and<br />
Shinawatra III. This is also the closest district to<br />
