Teaching is a profession that creates all other
professions. In fact, it is not just a profession or a
service or even a job. It's a pillar of the society. My
passion towards education made me choose this field,
as I can get opportunity not just to teach students but
also to learn. Life itself is a stage to learn. Learning,
unlearning and relearning, that is what the essence of
life.
A teacher is effective only when he himself is active
always. He engages students in discussions, activities
and higher-level thinking. An effective teacher believes
that each student deserves an education tailored to his
or her strengths and needs. He knows pretty well that
students learn best when they construct their own
knowledge through explanation and discussion. To
make all these happen,
educational institutions
too, play equally important
role.
However, in modern days
where everything has
become commercialized,
the role of educational
institutions is often
questioned. They are often
found to be guilty for not being ethical in offering
quality education and making them future-ready.
Though there are mushrooming number of colleges
round us, of various shapes and sizes, hardly few ones
are imparting quality education. Hence, there must be
good institutions, to employ effective teachers. And,
I'm fortunate to have landed at Geethanjali Institute of
PG Studies (GIPS) as a faculty.
GIPS is one of the prestigious educational institutions
in the city which is established in the year 2002 by Siva
Srivasa Educational Society. The society started in the
year 1997 with noble ideas. This society is renounced
for quality in education. Most of the members in the
society are IT professionals and NRIs having several
years of industrial experience. The basic aim of starting
this college is to give education with state-of-arttechnology
and international exposure. The motto
„Action Today Destiny Tomorrow‟ states that the
institution always concentrates at tomorrow‟s destiny
so that action today gets enriched. The college has
proven its excellence within a short period of
time. The college gained good recognition and
students felt proud to say „we are from GIPS -
Glittering Institute of Pearl-like Students‟.
I joined the institution in the year 2010 after serving
ICFAI, one of the top-10 B-Schools in India, for
around6 years. Initially, I felt GIPS, as yet another
ordinary college. But, it didn't take much time to me to
come to know the nobility of
the institution in the city's
educational sphere. The
humbleness of the foundermembers
of the institution and
their motto to serve quality
education to the student
community places them atop of
any other educationalist in the
city.
No sooner I started getting deeply involved with
classes and courses than I realized the flexibility
offered in allowing me to experiment and introduce
innovative solutions, in nurturing students,
academically and personally. The serene environment,
spacious lecturing halls, state-of-the-art seminar hall
and demo hall makes me more excited to conduct
sessions in novel and creative ways. Above all, I feel it‟s
a great, great pleasure teaching and training students at
this institute. Long live GIPS !!!
AMBUSH MARKETING
Cover Story
A
mbush Marketing refers to
a situation in which a
company or product seeks
to ride on the publicity value of a
major event without having
contributed to the financing
of the event through
sponsorship. Ambush
Marketing is also known as
"Parasitic Marketing".
Parasite means those living
organisms that live on food
made by other living
creatures. Parasite Marketing
means taking the advantage
of value of major event's
publicity, i.e., that product or
company live on food made by the
events, which they have not
sponsored. Ambush marketing is
"an attack from a hidden position“.
Derived from the old French verb
"Embuschier" having the meaning "to
place in a wood ", is a type of
marketing by a company that is not
an official sponsor of an event, but
which places advertisements
customers to pay attention to the
advertisement. It refers to a
company's attempt to capitalize on
the goodwill, reputation, and
popularity of a particular event by
creating an association with it,
without the authorization or
consent of the necessary
parties using the event, to induce
Ambush Marketing, a term
coined by marketing guru Jelly
Welsh may not be very precisely
defined. Two explanations of
ambush marketing are given below.
‣ "Competitors may try to
divert the audience's attention to
itself by implying that it is
sponsoring the event, this is called
Ambushing". (Bayless, 1998)
‣ "Ambush marketing is the
unauthorized association of business
with the marketing of an event, such
as the Olympic Games, without
paying for marketing rights.
Typically, it is engaged in by large
corporate competitors of official
sponsors". (Oliver Richard, 1997)
In marketing parlance, ambush
marketing refers to an
attempt to benefit from an
event at the expense of
another company's
association with the event.
This term refers to means
by which companies not
officially associated with an
event ride on its popularity
and get themselves subtly
associated with it in the
consumer's mind. It is a
promotional strategy nonsponsors
use to capitalize on the
popularity or prestige of an event or
property by giving false impression
that they are the sponsors.
Nothing Official About It
Though the concept of "Ambush
Marketing" was not new, it caught
wide attention in India during the
1996 Cricket World Cup. The
instance perhaps marks the most
famous example of ambush
marketing in Indian sports
sponsorship.
2

Cricket is something people in India
are most passionate about. When
the World Cup was being staged
here, traditional rivals Coke and
Pepsi were desperate to get the
sponsorship and encash on the
cricket fever in the Indian subcontinent.
Coke won the battle by
becoming one of the official
sponsors of the event. However,
Pepsi had a plan to win the race off
the field. Though it could not attract
enter the cricket grounds, it
decided to everybody's attention
outside the field. The "Nothing
Official About It" campaign was
more memorable and appreciated
than that of the official sponsors.
Coke paid Rs. 40 cr. to be called an
official sponsor, but Pepsi's brilliant
counter ad "Nothing Official About
It" clearly occupied more of the
consumers' mind space. Pepsi signed
up a string of Indian players and
used them in television
advertisements under the
catchphrase "Nothing Official About
It". They even told their players not
to approach the coke drinks trolley
during breaks in play. The campaign
showed cricketers like Sachin
Tendulkar rejecting The Official
Drink for a Pepsi. Though Cocacola
was official sponsor for the
event, Pepsi made the best of it with
its brilliant campaign.
Coke: One Step Ahead
A few years back, Michael Jackson
signed a contract with Pepsi for a
stage show in Thailand, however,
the contract was cancelled due to
Jackson's illness and dehydration.
Rival Coke immediately came up
with a smart ad campaign featuring
Jackson's look-alike, with the tagline,
"Dehydrated?
There is Always Coke". Thus, the
ambushing practices are very much
in vogue between any traditional
rivals.
Why Ambush Marketing?
The obvious rationale for endorsing
huge sponsorships is to achieve
audience awareness and image
enhancement. This sponsorship role
permits marketing communicators
to talk more directly to particular
market segments in a manner that
may be more efficient and less
costly than traditional media
advertising. No wonder, such highvisibility
marketing, promotional and
advertising opportunities attract
aggressive competitors, intend on
creating their own association with
the event and there is no dearth of
interested sponsors.
However, the sky-high
sponsorship fees and the legal
obligations of being an official
sponsor often discourage many
companies from sponsoring the
mega events. Those who bid the
highest, get the official sponsorship
rights. As a result, those who miss
this opportunity try some way out
to beat their competitors who
bagged the sponsorship rights. They
have to come out with better ways
to make the most of their adspends.
Often, this leads companies
to opt for marketing gimmicks like
ambush marketing.
Outcome of Ambush
Marketing
The prime objective of ambush
marketers is to hamper the
branding efforts of the official
sponsor by stealing the attention,
increasing the clutter and confusing
the audience.
The
ambushers ensure that the main
sponsor's exclusive association with
the event gets diluted, and the
sponsor is unable to get the return
he expected from the investment
made in the event. The main
consequence of this unethical
competitive tool is that it creates
unhealthy competitive environment.
The commercial value of the event
also decreases. Most importantly, it
can degrade the abilities of the
organizers to attract future
sponsors. This gimmick causes
confusion, which in turn could have
negative impact on sponsorship.
Conclusion
The creative tricks of ambush
marketing damages the interests of
official sponsors of mega events
often; they can do nothing about it.
Organizers struggle to protect
themselves from such guerilla
attacks. Strict laws must be
enforced to control the menace
caused by such cunning tricks of
marketers which is useful to none.
Adult Education in Rural India
What is Adult Education:
In rural India, a greater percentage of people deprive of
even elementary education. To educate them,
government has started a lot of
adult education centers in rural
areas. If you educate an adult,
he/she can prove him/herself as a
literate to face various problems
in life. With little education they
can take care of various things in
their day-to-day life. If they have
some education they can‟t be
cheated by others and they can have a stubborn plan to
develop themselves.
Development of adult education in rural
India:
Basically people of rural India are not aware of the need
for keeping good health and are unable to fight the
poverty. To eradicate the above it is our society‟s
(government) responsibility to provide good education,
creating awareness on keeping good health and
strengthening themselves against all odds in life. It is
only possible through proper educated.
Measures to Improve Quality of Adult
Education In Rural India:
India has a vast rural area in coverage for
which government has to collect proper valuable
data through a systematic survey.
Government has to appoint educatedunemployed
to serve voluntarily and make
themselves available for adult education in rural
areas.
Government also should encourage rural
people through self-employment schemes to bring
them to the top of the poverty line.
To get success in this aspect everybody
should have collective responsibility to help out
the rural people to eradicate
illiteracy.
Educate the rural
community…
Jargon Buster
In a surprise move, the RBI has released its third quarter monetary policy, in which increased the short
term lending rate or repo rate to 8% from the existing 7.75%. Repo or repurchase option is a means of
short-term borrowing, wherein banks sell approved government securities to RBI and get funds in exchange. In
other words, in a repo transaction, RBI repurchases government securities from banks, depending on the level of
money supply it decides to maintain in the country's monetary system.
What are
Repo & Reverse Repo
Rates ?
…………………………………………………………………………………….
Repo rate is the discount rate at which banks borrow from RBI. Reduction in repo rate
will help banks to get money at a cheaper rate, while increase in repo rate will make bank
borrowings from RBI more expensive. If RBI wants to make it more expensive for the
banks to borrow money, it increases the repo rate. Similarly, if it wants to make it
cheaper for banks to borrow money, it reduces the repo Reverse repo is the exact opposite of repo. In a reverse
repo transaction, banks purchase government securities form RBI and lend money to the banking regulator, thus
earning interest. Reverse repo rate is the rate at which RBI borrows money from banks. Banks are always happy
to lend money to RBI since their money is in safe hands with a good interest. Thus, repo rate is always higher than
the reverse repo rate.
Insiring Personality
T
Salute the Superstar
Not for his Stardom, but for his Simplicity
- T.N.C. Aishwarya
Sem-3 MBA Class of 2013-15
o succeed every moment, one needs great amounts of inspiration. One can get true inspiration from everyone and
everything around us. One such great
inspiration to me is one of the legendry
personalities from the silver screen. He is
in fact not just a film actor or just a celebrity; he is
more like God to many Indians, especially
south Indians. And he is none other than the
south Indian superstar, Rajnikanth.
When I got an opportunity to write a column
here, about my inspiring personality, I chose to
write about this man, as he is a household
name in India, at least in south India and has the
potential to provide enormous confidence to
students who are willing to pursue their goals in
life. So what lessons can we learn from Rajnikanth‟s entire career? Here are the three most important lessons that can be
learnt by all.
1. Struggle Will Always be there Before You Can Succeed.
Rajnikanth had to go through some of the worst struggles that one could ever imagine. Born to a Police Constable,
and after the death of his mother, Rajnikanth had to do all kinds of jobs to support his family. He has worked as a
carpenter, coolie and a bus conductor before joining the Indian Cinema. And In the film industry too he had to
struggle his way to the top position. So in the same way, there will be lots of obstacles and struggle that you need
to go through to achieve your dream of pursuing your dream career. It‟s important not to lose hope when
you encounter with these obstacle and struggles but you need to be confident that you can achieve your goal.
2. Do Not Get Bogged Down By Failure.
Rajnikanth, in his entire career has seen many failures. Some of his movies where heavily criticized by audience and
critics. But these failures led to making many successful movies for him. He was told to quit the industry after the
failure of a movie, But he didn‟t. He came back strongly and made many successful movies after that failure. In the
Same way, you may encounter failures in the form of low scores in academics or rejection in interviews. But it is
important that you do not quit due to these failures. You have to rise from these failures to succeed and achieve
your dream. Do not quit after a failure. As they say failure is a stepping stone for success.
3. Be Balanced In Your Life.
Rajnikanth is not a actor who just focuses on his Movies all through the Years. He is also a very spiritual person. He
generally goes for spiritual journeys after he has completed a movie. His movies generally come after a span of 2 to
3 Years. So he focuses not only on movies but other things too. In the same way, there is no point in studying all
through the day for your MBA or any other degree. You have to be balanced. You have to enjoy too, apart from
the preparation for the semester exams. So just because you are going to give the exams does not mean you have
to quit everything else. Be balanced. You should balance both enjoyment and studies.
ABCDs of Life
Affluence: Having a good home, eating good food, wearing good clothes, are a means to living well;
they are not the goals of our life. The quality of your life is decided by how peaceful and joyful you are.
Business: Whether you manufacture a safety pin, a computer or a spaceship, or you teach people
how to meditate, there is only one business in the world: human wellbeing.
Culture: The significance of Indian culture is that it is a scientific process towards wellbeing and
liberation.
Death: If you constantly remember that you are mortal, you will gently and sensibly upon this planet
Lessons from Mythology
Mythology
Sourced from my personal blog - deepscribes.blogspot.in
Asso. Prof. (Marketing Management)& Soft-skills Trainer
What would you say, if someone says “You are
really great! Nobody else around here could do
this so perfectly as you did. In fact, you have got
unique abilities. No one around here is
comparable to you ". Wouldn't you really feel
proud of yourself? Wouldn't you accept those
compliments? Certainly not, I feel so. Wait there. Do
you really feel that you deserve all those
compliments? Are you really the greatest of all
around us? Now, read this story from The
Ramayana, the splendid Indian epic. When Hanuma
found Sita in AshokaVanam in Lanka, he jumped
down very excitedly and stood before Sita and said
that he would take her away very swiftly to Rama
safely from Lanka, she first laughed at him seeing his
tiny shape and size. Annoyed by her witty laughs, he
immediately transformed himself into a very giant
personality. Seeing his true power and strength, Sita
said "You are really great. Nobody else around
here could do this so perfectly as you did. In fact,
you have got unique abilities. No one around
here is comparable to you".
But you know one thing? To strike a
compromise, usually kings select the one among
the troop who is the least powerful and with the
least abilities. In this way, you can guess how
powerful and able the rest of the worriers are, in
our troop. Though I am powerful, the rest are
hundred times powerful than me. Is this not what is
called being "down-to-the-earth". Is this not the
attitude we should possess? It's unwise to
immediately take credit on our own, for something
that happens naturally. Though we put some efforts
in doing something good, giving credit to others in
times of success and feeling responsible for the
faults, makes even a common man a great leader. It's
the attitude shown not only by the great Hanuma,
but also many of the modern-day leader and
managers
Now,it's your turn…………………………………
Dears readers, could you name few more leaders
who could be said to have possessed such qualities
discussed above? Mail your response to
darpandbsgips@gmail.com, naming the person
and few lines clearly mentioning his unique qualities
that sets the person stand as an example for the
above story.
You see the world with 6 pairs of human eyes, I see the world with 2 elephant eyes.
We see the same thing differently.
Elephant-headed Ganesha and his brother, the six-headed Kartikeya, decide to race three times around the
world. Kartikeya being athletic, jumps on his peacock and flies around the mountains, oceans and continents.
7
Ganesha simply goes around his parents and declares himself winner. When asked for an explanation for this
audacious declaration, Ganesha tells Kartikeya, "You went around your world: the objective world of things.
I went around my world: a subjective world of thoughts. What matters more?" With a typical Indian headshake,
head bobbing from side to side, Kartikeya smiles and replies, "Depends!" Everything depends on our beliefs:
the lens of subjective truth that helps us make sense of the world.
Recollections
Sk. Shaheena
Sem-3 MBA Class of 2013-15
When I was doing my bachelors course, like any other
graduate student, I was in a big confusion on what I really
wanted to become in life. However, I succeeded in finding
out my career goal with the help of my teachers and family
members. After thoroughly analyzing my personal skills
and abilities, they advised me to become a professional in
business administration and management.
But I was still in dilemma whether I can successfully pursue
post-graduation from a reputed college in Nellore?
Somehow, I successfully finished my bachelors and was in
a look-out for such institute which helps me to first build
confidence on myself and get along with academics
perfectly.
Finally, I landed safely at Geethanjali Institute of PG
Studies, shortly, GIPS. Oh my God! What a fantastic
experience it gave me on the very first day itself. The
interaction with the faculty really created a special interest
in me to eagerly look forward for pursuing the course. The
lush green, serene atmosphere, the infrastructure, the
huge library hall, state-of-the-art demo hall, all struck my
attention. Apart from academics, co-curricular and extracurricular
activities always kept me exited and challenging.
I knew I was lucky to be here. I am always very attentive in
the class room and am at the forefront in all co-curricular
activities. I am expecting even better things to come
ahead.
Incidentally, I came to know that the faculty of our
department is introducing a bi-monthly in-house magazine
dedicated to us, by the name Darpan. I was asked to keep
contributing to the magazine and I now feel so excited and
fortunate for getting a chance to showcase my hidden
talent to the world keep myself ready for challenges.
K. Suresk
Sem-3 MBA Class of 2013-15
After securing considerably good rank in ICET (state-level
entrance test into MBA or MCA), I fell in search of a good
institute which can impart practical skills in addition to
regular academics. I started enquiring about the institutes
of my choice. Surprisingly, many of whom I enquired
unanimously pointed me towards GIPS (it is what we call
Geethanjali Institute of PG Studies). So, I didn't need put
additional efforts in finding a good institute in the city.
It was my first day into GIPS. All the freshmen were put on
an orientation program. The College Academic Head
welcomed us into GIPS, referring it as a family.
The Academic Director then introduced the college
Correspondent to the gathering. The Director presided
over, and wished all of us good luck. Later, the Academic
Head introduced all the faculty members from Computer
Science and Business Administration departments.
I felt really great for choosing such a noble institute where
the faculty is wide-experienced, highly-qualified and
committed. At the moment, I felt like I would definitely
transform myself into a complete professional. At the end
of my first year of MBA, when I looked back, I found a seachange
in me.
Before I joined this institute I was just an average
performer during my graduation days. I was not so
confident to intermingle with strangers and even with my
own classmates. I didn't possess good communication
skills, especially English.
Believe it or not, I am not what I was earlier. I am very
confident now, could step-up the dais in the classroom and
deliver speeches, in English. Yes, in English. I am now
capable of speaking and writing in English which was a
nightmare to me earlier. What more can any student
expect from his college. Thank you GIPS.
GLOBAL WARMING
- P. Divya Sai Mounika
Sem-3 MBA Class of 2013-15
Dear friends! After a dreadful six-long months of hot summer, we were in fact, very eager to welcome the change
in the season, as winter usually arrives late at least by September these days. But, where is the season-change?
What happened to the long-awaited winter? When will the temperature starts falling down? Above all, the big
question is WHY? Why, seven such horrible moths of heat? This October looked like another summer, for the
second time. On the other hand, how horrifying are the effects of Hudhud that devastated the entire
Visakhapatnam early this month? Extreme heat at some places and extreme winds and cyclone at some other parts
of the Andhra. WHY? Did you ever ponder? Could you guess? Yes, you are right, buddy. It is due to global
warming.
Let's Know What Global-warming Is:
It is the increase of earth‟s average temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide,
emissions from burning fossils or from deforestation. It is also known as Greenhouse effect. It is caused due to the
increase in levels of carbon dioxide & it leads to damage of ozone layer also.
What are the Effects of Global-warming?
Global-warming leads to many catastrophic effects, not just on mankind, but also on the entire globe. A few major
issues are:
Changes in rainfall patterns
Melting of ice caps
Wide spread vanishing of animal population
Spread of disease
Are there any Preventive Measures?
To prevent global warming we must follow some measures like
‣ Try using refills instead of buying new jars or bottles each time. This reduces your consumption of plastic.
‣ Use less heat and air conditioning.
‣ Avoid excess packaging especially molded plastic that cannot be recycled.
‣ Use green products i.e. eco-friendly products ex: Tupperware.
‣ Plant a tree.
What should I do Now?
After going through this piece of information, everyone of us should immediately start sharing the information
about recycling and energy consumption with our friends, neighbors and coworkers and make them aware of this
green house effect and take opportunity to encourage good environment.
J Just Like That
Life is only traveled ones; Today's moment
becomes Tomorrow's memory. Enjoy every
moment, good or bad, because the Gift of Life
is Life itself...
A leaf which falls from a tree goes wherever
wind takes it. Be the wind to drive others, not
the leaf to be driven by others.
We always feel that good things happen only
to others, but we always forget that we are
others for someone else!
Laugh at your mistakes, but learn from them.
Joke over your troubles, but gather strength
from them. Have fun with your difficulties, but
overcome them.
Success is like a train. It has several
compartments: Hard-work, Focus, Luck, etc.
but leading all those is the engine of
A sincere devotee asked God: I want peace.
God replied: Remove I; that's ego, remove
test.
NAME HIM
Read the following sentence:
FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF
SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF
YEARS.
Now read through the above sentence counting aloud the "F"s as you
find them (1...2...etc). Count them ONLY ONCE: Do not go back and
count them again!!!.
OK - GO!
Analysis: Average-intelligents find three Fs. If you spotted four, you're
above average. If you got five, you can turn your nose at most anybody.
If you caught six, you are a genius. There is no catch. Many people
forget the "OF"'s. The human brain tends to see them as V's and not F's.
Pretty weird, huh?
Well, that's a good start. Out of those who believe in ghosts, do any you think you've
glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost? 15 students raise
their hands. "That's a great response. Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?" Three
students raise their hands. "That's fantastic. But let me ask you one question further.....Have any of
you ever stood beside a ghost?" One student in the back raises his hand. The professor is
astonished. He takes off his glasses, takes a step back, and says, "Son, all the years I've been giving
Tales of Treasure
Vikram and Betaal stories are world famous
from time immemorial and impact a meaningful
lessons to one and all. These stories are an integral
part of rich Indian culture and were originally
written nearly 2500 years ago by Mahakavi
SomdevBhuttin Sanskrit. These are based on the
emporer of Ujjin, king Vikramaditya (Vikram)
and Betaal, a vampire spirit who inhabits and
animates on dead bodies on the treetop. The king
promises a monk to bring Betaal and tries all
ways to capture the vampire spirit. Each time
the king tries to capture the Betaal, it narrates
a beautiful story after completing the story
Betaal would pose a query that if he (The king)
knew the answer, was bound to respond lest he
will break his head into thousand pieces.
But if he does speak out, he would break the vow
of silence and Betaal would fly back to the
treetop, leaving the king inches short of his
destination! The king would go after the vampire
and start all over again. And so on and on.
This column brings out a series of stories every
time, that are witty, spellbinding, thoughtprovoking
and that presents lessons for life to all
of us. A twist in tale is that most of our stories are
twined around the present day's set-up.
Have a happy reading !!!
Strange Decision
It was a dark night and there were
strange noises from everywhere and
voice of the moaning of jackals could be
heard. It was raining heavily. Although
there was a bad atmosphere king
Vikramaditya did not fear a bit. He climbed the tree
to bring the corpse down and soon he began to walk
with the corpse lying on his shoulder.
The Betaal spoke: "O King, I pity you as you are
making untiring efforts without relaxing as if you
wish to achieve something. Instead of enjoying a
comfortable sleep in your palace you‟re still coming
after me”. King didn‟t speak anything because any
word from his mouth would keep Betaal right back
on the tree. So Betaal starts his story.
The co-founder of a billion dollar firm NanoSoft,
Mr. Rajendra, was a very successful business czar.
He cared about his clients and employees very much.
After long period of marriage ,his wife
Mrs. Prema, gave birth to a beautiful
daughter, named Sona. As she was the
only child, she enjoyed a lot of freedom.
She was clever not only in studies but in
the use of the advanced technology.
When she reached marriageable age, her
parents began searching for a suitable partner for
her. But Sona disagreed to their proposal saying her
parents that "Dad, I want that my husband should be
more skilled in all activities and should be overpower
me in competition. So you may make an
announcement of the contest". Rajendra was very
proud to hear about his daughter's thoughts.
The announcement was made not only in his state,
but also in the neighboring states of India. Thinking
that Sona is only an ordinary girl, many skilled and
intelligent young men came with idea that they can
easily defeat the girl and as she is the only child to
the greatest businessman of the country, they will
get the whole fortune after Mr. Rajendra. But Sona
defeated everyone in the contest, and they had to go
back disappointed. She was taking on the contenders
one after another; among them was Mr. Uday Varma,
a young boy with exceptional talent. He watched the
competition every day, by joining the crowd. He
carefully watched how Sona fought and the different
strategies she adopted to meet the method of
fighting followed by each contender. Within few days
Uday Varma had learnt all her strategies, and the
next day he was ready to compete with her. He
fought very cleverly. Soon Sona was defeated by
Uday Varma. When Uday Varma came forward to
present himself to the public, Mr. Rajendra asked
Uday Varma from where he had learnt all those
techniques in computer technology. Uday Varma
replied “I have watched all strategies adopted by
Sona, by watching her during fight”.
Sona suddenly said to him that "You have defeated
me, but I can‟t marry you”. Rajendra was surprised
by Sona‟s decision and asked her “why couldn‟t you
marry him?” Sona turned back to Uday Varma and
said “Just think and find the reason”. Uday Varma
thought something and said . "Yes you are right. I
should not marry you." Rajendra and Prema were
surprised that even Uday Varma too accepted Sona‟s
decision quickly. They were unable to find the reason
The Betaal concluded the story and
asked King Vikramaditya, “Why did she
say he did not deserve her hand in
marriage in spite of his victory over her?
Tell me Vikram if you would not speak
even if you know the answer you are not
a man of Justice”. Vikram Replied “Betaal, Uday
Varma had learnt strategies by watching Sona‟s
strategies while fighting just as someone learn from
his teacher. And in Bhartiya Sanskruti a teacher
cannot marry his student.
In Bhartiay Sanskruti father, mother and teacher are
all like God. As Sona realized that Uday Varma was
first her student and then a contender and she was
not willing to accept that relationship for the
purpose of marriage. Uday Varma
too thought on the same manner
and realized that he could not
marry Sona. Since the king spoke
a word, Betaal flew back to the
tree carrying the corpse along
with him. Vikram with his sword
in his hand went.………………………..
P Perspective
-Ms. A. Sowjanya
Asso.Prof.
We want to do many things in life if God permits us
to do. Once we miss the time it never comes back.
We have to analyze how we are spending our days‟
time. How much time we are spending on sleep and
how much time we are spending for our betterment.
What are the important things we must do every day
and what are the things we have to avoid?
Quadrant 2- These people always plan their
schedule well. They set their own targets and
complete the same before the deadlines. They have
ample of time and peace of mind. Their efficiency is
always very high.
Quadrant 3- These persons may be hard working
but they do not succeed since they spend most of
their time in doing unimportant things.
Quadrant 4- Irresponsible and lazy person may lie
in this quadrant
A model of time-adjust technique is presented
hereunder:
Urgent
Not urgent
Our time is normally divided into 4 quadrants
Urgent
Quadrant 1
30%
(studying just
before the exam)
Quadrant 3
10%
(phone calls)
Not urgent
Quadrant 2
30%
( prepares for the
exam well before the
exam)
Quadrant 2
30%
(gossips)
Just analyze where you spend your time
Quadrant 1- These persons are always in a stress
as they are doing jobs which are important and
urgent. Since the quadrant 1 people are always in a
rush, they never find time and peace of mind. Their
efficiency is never optimum
Quadrant
15%
Quadrant
35%
Quadrant
280%
Quadrant 4
5%
Spend most of the time in the quadrant 2. Move your
time from other quadrant to this quadrant. Your
efficiency will increase and you will have peace of
mid.
Like it or not some of your time will be taken by
Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4, But one should keep
the time in these two quadrants at its minimum. No
matter how much you plan you will require some
time to spend in this quadrant1. So always be ready
for it.
Education, Training and Learning, Are they One and the Same?
- Mrs. V. Padmasri,
Asst. Prof.
Before starting the discussion, we need to know about Education, Training and Development, and how do we
differentiate Learning from them will give
us a useful insight to proceed further.
Education and Training promotes learning
and provides confidence in the learned
person to apply his learning in the
required situations. Education and training
are means of learning which continue
throughout human life making them to
modify their behavior more or less in a permanent way because of new
perceptions, and other experiences. ?
Although learning is common factor in
education and training we can differentiate them as below.
Education:-
Education, both formal and informal is the part of learning which concerns with developing
general knowledge, understanding the environment and may continue throughout one‟s life.
In order to cope with changing world, life competencies should be developed for creating
opportunities in the society. It is an activity aimed at developing the knowledge, skill, values
and understanding required in all aspects of individual‟s life as being a young person or as an
adult. Education is necessary to know about the traditions and ideas influencing the society in which they live and
make some contributions to it. Without vision and flexibility in education, the people, culture, society as well as
business will perish.
Training:-
Training is the part of learning which essentially improves job related knowledge, skills and
attitudes in a person and so can be said to be concerned with the work life of human beings.
Training is a planned process to modify attitude, knowledge, skill or behavior through
learning experience to achieve effective performance in an activity or range of activities. Its
purpose is to develop the individual‟s abilities to satisfy current and future needs of work environment.
Learning:
Learning is said to be permanent change in behavior as a result of education, training and development activities or
experiences. It varies from person to person. Each individual‟s style, pace, capability, capacity will vary to a great
extent. Learning is much more than acquiring new knowledge. It takes place through the following process:
1. Only when the person grasps the subject mentally and physically
2. The person translates it into words or actions that make sense to him
3. Does something with the new found knowledge to make it his own.
Finally, we can say that learning happens in an individual through proper education and
training which makes him as a successful person.
Once, two friends were walking through the deserts.
During some point of the journey, they had an
argument, and one friend slapped the other
one in the face. The one who got slapped
was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote
in the sand: "Today my best friend slapped me
in the face."
They kept on walking until they found an
oasis, where they decided to take a bath.
The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire
and started drowning, but the friend saved him.
After he recovered from the near drowning, he
wrote on a stone: "Today my best friend saved me".
The friend who had slapped and saved
his best friend asked him, "After I hurt
you, you wrote in the sand and now,
you write on a stone. Why?". The
other replied, " When someone hurts
us we should write it down in sand
where winds of forgiveness can erase I
away. But, when someone does something good for
us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can
ever erase it.
Moral
" Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone. "
Recipe for the Success of Student
3. Place the vegetable of mind in the water
of pure thoughts.
4. As it boils, add the essentials ingredients
of sincerity, self-effort, self-confidence,
interest and love towards the work.
Nobody believes in a
to that villager. The villagers told him to shout out 'Tiger; immediately
when he see a tiger. The boy watched the sheep for many days. The
The boy laughed. The villagers got angry and went away, treating him as
They beat the boy and went away. Suddenly a tiger came really. The boy cried tiger. Nobody
The Good and the Evil
Long ago, there lived a little boy named Sammy. He was a good boy. He was
good in his studies, obedient to his parents, more intelligent than many
other boys in his class and kind to everyone. Grown-ups as well as those
junior to Sammy loved him very much. But that aroused jealousy in many
other boys who longed to be as loved as Sammy. ……………………………………………
Now there was another boy named Timmy who studied in the same class as
Sammy. Unlike Sammy, he was not good at studies and always liked to play
during school hours. He misbehaved with his parents, bullied his
classmates and even ill-treated Sammy. He always tried to put Sammy
down and belittled him before other kids in the class. But no matter what
he did, Sammy's grades kept getting better and better. Whether
in studies or in sports or from his classmates, Sammy kept getting
accolades from everywhere. ………………………………………………………………………………….
On his eighth birthday, Sammy got a nice pen as a gift from his parents.
He brought it to school so that he could use it to take down the notes of
the lectures that the teachers gave in class. This was a very beautiful pen
and it could help one write very fast. When Timmy saw it, he was very
jealous of Sammy. He asked Sammy, "Hey, where did you get that? Did
you buy it"? "My parents gave it as a birthday gift to me." replied Sammy.
Timmy was overwhelmed with
anger and jealousy. The bad
boy that he was, he rarely
got any present from his
parents. He decided to
steal Sammy's pen. During
recess, when everyone had
gone out from the class,
Timmy opened Sammy's bag
and took out his pen. Then he
hid it inside his bag and went
out to have his
tiffin. ……………____………..
When Sammy came back and
could not find his pen, he
informed his class teacher
about it. There was a hunt
for the missing pen and the
class teacher ordered the class monitor to search the bag of every
children inside the class. The missing pen was soon found out of Timmy's
bag and the furious teacher asked the errant
boy.………………………………………..……………………………………………………………………………..
"Now Timmy, what do you have to say about it?" Timmy was in tears. He
had nothing to say. When Sammy saw Timmy cry, he took pity on the boy.
The kind boy that he was, he had no ill-feeling against his classmate. He
requested his class teacher not to take any action against Timmy, now
that his stolen pen was found. …………………………………………………….…………………………
This opened Timmy's eyes. He could now see what a good boy Sammy was.
He asked for forgiveness from his teacher and Sammy. From that day, he
became friends with Sammy and gradually changed himself to be as good
as Sammy. Everyone began to love Timmy and Sammy was proud of his new
friend.
Despite being hurt by
Timmy, Sammy gave him back
only love in return. This is
how we should also treat our
enemies. Who knows? One
day, our behavior may just
change them for the better.
GOAT OR SCAPEGOAT
A good scapegoat is just as welcome as solution to the problem
There was a farmer who had a
horse and a goat…..One day, the
horse became ill and he called
the veterinarian, who said: -
Well, your horse has a virus. He
must take this medicine for
three days. I’ll come back on
the 3rd day and if he’s not
better, we’re going to have to
put him down.
Nearby, the goat listened
closely to their
conversation. The next day,
they gave him the medicine and
left. The goat approached the
horse and said: - Be strong, my
friend. Get up or else they’re
going to put you to sleep!
On the second day, they gave
him the medicine and left. The
goat came back and said:
- Come on buddy, get up or else
you’re going to die! Come on, I’ll
help you get up. Let’s go! One,
two, three…On the third day,
they came to give him the
medicine and the vet said:-"Unfortunately,
we’re going to have to put him down
tomorrow. Otherwise, the virus might spread
and infect the other horses". After they
left, the goat approached the horse and said:
- Listen pal, it’s now or never! Get up, come
on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up!
That’s it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two,
three… Good, good. Now faster, come on……
Fantastic! Run, run more! Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you’re a champion!!!
All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field
and began shouting:- It’s a miracle! My horse is cured. We must have a
grand party. Let’s kill the goat!!!!
The Lesson: This often happens in the workplace & life in general.
Nobody truly knows which employee or people actually deserves the
merit of success & are in fact contributing towards success , or who’s
actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen. Be
grateful. Remember LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION
IS A SKILL!!!!.............................................................
If anyone ever tells you that your work is unprofessional, remember:
Struggles for Life
A Short Inspiring Story
In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us. Once
upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn‟t know how she was going to
make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon
followed.
Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three
pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.
He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited,
wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and
placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.
Turning to her he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?” “Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she hastily replied.
“Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg
and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma
brought a smile to her face.
“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.
He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.
However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft
and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then
the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling
water, they changed the water and created something new. “Which are you,” he asked his daughter.
“When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “
Moral: In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what
happens within us.
Which one are you? Potato, Egg or Coffee Bean
POWER OF FOCUS
In a forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth.
She finds a remote grass field near a strong-flowing
river. This seems a safe place. Suddenly labor
pains begin. At the same moment, dark clouds
gather around above & lightning starts a forest fire.
She looks to her left & sees a hunter with his bow
extended pointing at her. To her right, she spots
a hungry lion approaching her.
What can the pregnant deer do? She is in labor!
What will happen? Will the deer survive? Will she
give birth to a fawn? Will the fawn survive? Or will
everything be burnt by the forest fire? Will she perish to the
hunters' arrow? Will she die a horrible death at the hands of
the hungry lion approaching her?
She is constrained by the fire on the one side & the flowing river on the other & boxed in by her natural predators. What does
she do? She focuses on giving birth to a new life.
The sequence of events that follows are:
- Lightning strikes & blinds the hunter.
- He releases the arrow which zips past the deer & strikes the hungry lion.
- It starts to rain heavily, & the forest fire is slowly doused by the rain.
- The deer gives birth to a healthy fawn.
In our life too, there are moments of choice when we are confronted on αll sides with negative thoughts and
possibilities. Some thoughts are so powerful that they overcome us & overwhelm us.
Maybe we can learn from the deer. The priority of the deer, in that given moment, was simply to give birth to a baby. The rest
was not in her hands & any action or reaction that changed her focus would have likely resulted in death or disaster.
Ask yourself, Where is your focus? Where is your faith and hope?
In the midst of any storm, do keep it on God always. He will never ever disappoint you. NEVER. Remember, GOD neither
slumbers nor sleeps...
A Talk with the Topper
Classroom is just like a potpourri of varieties of pupils. A few are very active and interactive
inside the classroom. A few other may be silent inside, but prove their best outside the
classroom. Some are good at spots and games and some other, best in academics. Here is one
such students who used to keep calm inside the classroom, but scored top marks in the 1st
semester MBA examination and turned out to be the college topper. On Monday, the 22nd
Sep. Team Darpan approached him for a casual talk and invited him to share his feelings.
Team Darpan (TD):
Sampath:
Hi Sampath! Good evening! You look very joyous ever since the sem-1 results are declared.
Good evening sir! To be frank, Yes, I am little joyous.
Sampath:
TD:
Sampath:
We know the reason behind your joy. You stood 1st in sem-1 examination. How do you feel about it?
I am truly happy for that sir. In fact, I didn't expect that I would be the topper. That's a big achievement in my
life. But, one thing I can say with confidence. From my side, I worked really hard. In fact, I usually work hard
every time, but never think of the outcome.
Have you ever been 1st in the past, in school or college days?
No sir. I never stood top in academics in my school or college days. I was an average student, till my
graduation. It is only after joining this institute, I came to understand the need to do good in academics. In this
regard, I should convey my sincere gratitude to my faculty for inspiring me.
What special things might have contributed to your success?
Sir, I sincerely believe in the popular saying, "Hard-work never fails". This one thing is in the top of my mind.
Since, I am from Telugu-medium, initially I faced a great difficulty in understanding the concepts, since in MBA
a lot of jargons and new words are quite common. One day, I realized that I could make use of available
resources to cross the hurdles such as my cell-phone to use e-dictionary, read business dailies online etc.
Were your parents happy on seeing their boy stand first in sem-end exams?
My parents too, never expected me to achieve this. Only thing they knew about me is that I'm a sincere and
hard-working boy. I have been working as a newspaper-boy since my intermediate, dropping newspapers doorto-door.
I used to wake up at 4.30 and go out on my bicycle to drop newspapers. Some time, I had to burn
mid-night oil to study hard. Sir, I lost my father last year. My mother is a great inspiration to me. I learnt
working hard seeing my father. I learnt patience from my mother. Hence, I now feel more responsible towards
my family. (Wiping off tears that ran out of his eyes)
(After taking some tome to console) What are your plans for the forthcoming semesters?
Sir, I know, for many it's not at all an achievement. But for an average and hard-working boy like me, definitely
it's an achievement. I am also aware that there are many more students in my class who could do far better for
the forthcoming exams. Hence, I just want to focus on written communication, which is a very important
element to succeed in examinations. I also do not want to feel hesitate in getting all my doubt clarified from my
faculty. Also, I wish to read more and more books for further my knowledge in subject-matter. My
friends..Zubair, Subareddy and my Team Coordinator Divya Sai are really helpful in encouraging and helping
me in getting along with my studies. Thanks to them and thanks to my college.
Really glad to do good at the event and grabbing 1st place in Biz-Quiz round.
I am glad that I along with my friend Sunil won 1st place in Biz-Quiz event. That was
really tough for us. A few questions were really unexpected such as 'full form for ICET,
And I felt very happy for coming to know that I was promoted to the next level, i.,e Strss Interview.
Alas, I couldn't do well in that round, as I couldn't understand the language of the one who was
realized that command over Ebglish is so important, that even it amy kill the chances to win.
