The first melt processing studies were conducted using a Haake Torque rheometer,<br />

equipped with a two rotor heated mixing chamber. In Figure 4 and 5 the heated mixing<br />

chamber has been removed to show the rotors. The torque rheometer is an instrumented<br />

lab scale melting and mixing unit used to evaluate the processability of <strong>plastic</strong><br />

<strong>for</strong>mulations. Processing issues such as melt viscosity, discoloration, and off gassing can<br />

be studied at various temperatures and residence times.<br />

All of the tests were run at a temperature of 270ºC and a rotor speed of 75 RPM. The<br />

procedure involved adding pre-weight batches of the mixed <strong>plastic</strong> <strong>for</strong>mulation and <strong>fly</strong><br />
