Santa Fe Animal Shelter’s canvassers conduct animal survey, offer licensing information
Licenses are available from canvassers, at the Shelter,
at the clinic, 2570 Camino Entrada, by mail or online at www.
sfhumanesociety.org. Call 983-4309 ext. 606 for information.
Canvassers with the Santa Fe Animal Shelter started hitting area streets in
December, conducting a census of companion animals in the region and
providing pet owners with important information about licensing.
Dogs and cats in the city must be licensed by law, while the county
requires that only dogs be licensed. But being compliant with the law
isn’t the only reason to license pets. Licensing is the best way for wayward pets
to get back to their owners, and it offers a guarantee that your pet is up-to-date
on his or her rabies vaccination, a critical vaccine required by law.
County licenses are $3 for altered animals and $10 for unaltered animals
per year. In the city, fees are $10 for altered animals and $50 for unaltered
animals. City residents have the option of purchasing 1-, 2-, or 3-year licenses
and a 50 percent discount is offered to
those age 65 years or older for altered
animals.
